Can anyone help me find a Middleton in Middlesex. Given as place of residence on William Newmans marriage certificate
to Elizabeth Curtis at Kennington, Surrey on 08/01/1870.
William was born in the Cricklade district of Wiltshire [1843/48] his fathers name is given as Joseph on his marriage certificate occupation Shepherd [Ag. Labourer]. I do not know when he arrived in Middlesex but was residing at Shepperton on the 1871 census. Any help would be much appreciated. ???

Hi Mistyrose,
There are 52 villages with the name of Middleton that I found NONE in Middlesex.
Nor does it come up as a registration district - could it have been the name of a house? is there a street name etc there as well?
Cheers Cougar

Hello Cougar
It just says Middleton Co Middlesex
I wondered if it could be Myddleton. There is a Myddleton House at Bulls Cross, Enfield [now owned by English Heritage]. There was also a Myddleton Farm at Bulls Cross. Perhap the Co stands for cottage. There could have been farm cottages attached to Myddleton Farm, My Wiiliam was a farm labourer. The only reference to him before the 1871 census is the place of residence[Middleton Co Middlesex] on his marriage certificate of 1870. If anyone has the 1861 census for the Enfield area I would really appreciate a look up.
Thanks for your info.

Hello Bobtanner,
Thanks for the info from the Middleton, Essex 1851 census, It was certainly worth a look but unfortunately none of my Newman's are there. If anyone could do a 1851/1861 census lookup for Middlesex for a William Newman born. 1842/48 in Wiltshire it would be very much appreciated.

Looked at the 1861 census and the only birth in Wiltshire and living in middx for William Newman is for abt 1840 birth born in burbage wiltshire is a servant in the county of middx, if this is the one i will get you the address that it was recorded at, no other william in 1861.
I am trying to trace a cousin of mine that was a newman before she was married, came from the middx area, Edmonton, Sheila Newman, her parents were Kitt Pizzey and george Newman, she had a brother called john bob, she was born in the 50's, do you have anything on that?

Hello chri55y,
I think I have found my William Newman on 1861 Living as a Lodger in Highworth [which is as near as I can get to Cricklade]
age 16 born 1845 says 'Highworth'. I have my William on the '71,'81,'91 & 1901 census returns living in Shepperton Middx and Pyrford Surrey.
He was married from Littleton not Middleton Middx [must have been a registrars error]. The problem with the William on the Wilts '61 is that as he is a Lodger I can't connect him to any family. AND THAT'S MY BRICKWALL!!!! I have got a William Newman on the '51 in the Calne Union Workhouse. I have to investigate this further to see if I can make a connection. As to the Newman's from Edmonton I don't think there is a connection. Sorry I can't be of any help but good luck with your research. Regards Mistyrose.
