Hi All,
Luigi COSTADASI
Hoping someone can help me, I found this morning an article in the Evening Telegraph from Nov 1899 where the Judge sends my Great Grandfather (age 12) to prison for five days and then to Reformatory for three years.
When I look up the name in the National Archives online catalogue, there is nothing there for his name. (His father is there for selling booze out of his ice-cream shop though!) Maybe the Court records for young people were secret, like they are now? I am in New Zealand and have ordered records on DVD from the NAS before, no problem, but I don't know how to find these court records.
I'd like to find out which Reformatory he was sent to so I can try for the records there. Ideally I would be able to find the court records so that I could find out what prison as well.
Any suggestions appreciated,
Thanks very much, OchAye. :)

Hi
I could be wrong but I think I have read somewhere that there used to be an Industrial school at the Fechney in Perth.
They may have also sent him to Perth Prison

Errm, well he was let out early because he's definitely on the 1901 census for Perth with his family:
ED: 27
Household schedule number: 137
Line: 8
Roll: CSSCT1901_126
listed as Costadsei at 19 Kirkgate

Thanks guys for your interest,
So you see the problem - there are no Reformatories in Perth, only Industrial Schools. The Judge says (according to newspaper) that he is being sent to Reformatory for three years, so what happened? Why is he at home in the 1901 Census? I found a list online that has two Residential Industrial Schools in Perth, perhaps he ended up in one of those?
I emailed the National Archives today hoping they could tell me whether the Sheriff's Court records for Luigi are there but not included in the catalogue for some reason.
Any more suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks guys, OchAye :)
