Title: Cambusnethan Relief Church Baptisms
Post by: dgcrouch on Tuesday 21 February 12 16:25 GMT (UK)
Hi Everyone,

I have a copy of the baptismal register for the Relief Church in Wishaw (NAS CH3/1219/6) covering the period from late 1831 to mid 1864.  I could not find several baptisms for my family connections from Cambusnethan in ScotlandsPeoples' Old Parish Registers (OPRs) until I found this resource.

If any users have missing baptisms from this parish during this period, please post here (i.e. not a private message so that others may benefit) with the child's name, the parent's names and estimated birth date.  I will post the result of my search here as time permits.

I have attached an image of the first page of this register so readers can see the format and information contained therein.  Later pages include a column giving the child's date of death (typically as an infant or young child).

Thanks!

David

I have attached two (2) PDF files that contain all baptismal entries with the father's surname Black and the mother's maiden name Black.  If any of these entries are relevant to your research, please send me a private e-mail and I will provide you copies of the scanned images.

Many thanks, Canisp.

Hi David,

I didn't have any luck with the Gibb and Jack families but I notice others have downloaded the information too so I hope it's been useful to someone...thank you.  :)

I wonder if you would have any INGLIS on your list?

Hi David,

Many thanks for the Inglis look-up.  No luck there either but I have shared the information with some other Inglis researchers which was gratefully received.

Cheers, Sage.

Hi David,

That is indeed a very large body of work and one that will be a useful tool for those who research for names in the parish of Cambusnethan. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to transcribe it.  :)

Hi,
I paid Elizabeth to do the transcription work for me.  We agreed that I would retain all rights (including copyright) on all resulting products (spreadsheets, document, etc.) from this project.

Hi!  I am hoping you are still active on this site.  After many years of searching, your index helped me find a birth record for my 2x great grandfather, Thomas Tudehope born 28 Dec 1851 (page 44, line 12).  Would you be able to send me a copy of the actual record?  Or, point me to where I could request it?

Thank you so much!

The index to the register is attached to a message on page 2 of this thread.  I took a quick look without any luck but perhaps I missed something.....

Apologies, David, I missed that - must have gone from Page 1 to Page 3 without realising.

Is this offer still going?

My ggg grandmother Agnes Halliday was born around 1842 Chapel, Wishaw - parents John Halliday and Elizabeth Blair Dick. Some of her siblings have been registered in Relief Church baptisms (Rev Peter Brown)  but I only have her approximate birth year from census information.
She married James Leggat/Legget in 1860.

Thank you in advance!
