Title: Missing family in 1861!!! :(
Post by: sem73 on Saturday 14 May 05 22:35 BST (UK)
Hi All

Can any of you see them hiding??

The family in 1851...... all born and living in Mold,Flintshire except James Snr who was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

James Moralee 48 coalminer
Pheobe Moralee 47 earthenware dealer
Matthew Moralee 18 coalminer
Ann Moralee 16 earthenware dealer
William H Moralee 14 farm labourer
Michael Moralee 12 scholar
Mary Moralee 10 scholar
James Moralee 5 scholar
Sarah Moralee 3 at home

James Snr and Pheobe died in 1865 and 1872 so still alive in 1861.

The generation before these where living in and around Durham....generations after around Mold and Buckley, Flintshire or just over the border. I can't see them anywhere!!??

Their surname is probably the problem as its been spelt various ways over the years incl. Morralle, Morrallee, Morley and Morrlle.

Ideas anyone??...... Sarah

Hard to find but I found Urias b. 1826 MORRALLEE at Cefn Cock, Montgomeryshire. He was perhaps a son before Michael as M. was born when Pheobe was 35 so I would guess she had prior children. Anyway we have Urias [transcribed as b. Mold, Kent] with Margaret 36, Pheby 12, Urias 10 and Ann, 6.
Where the others have gone is anyone's guess but I see Urias  is a peddler and Phebe and May sold earthenware and that sounds like a traveller family despite the fact that James is a miner. 8)

Interesting information.  My Moralees come from James' brother Michael who ended up in the US in about 1828 or 1829.  Would love to find out more about the James Moralee line.

Hello Sarah

If this is your 'family'

We are related.

I note that your entry was quite some time ago - and wondered if you were still re-searching.

Regards

Jeff

Good !

Its an interesting family - and with quite some history.

How far are back - or - up todate ?

I may even have a photograph of your Grandfather  - do you know what happened to them after their return to the North East

Hi Jeff

Great to find another family researcher! :) It's been about a year since I've properly looked at this branch....have been trying to crack other lines with much more common surnames! I'm back to Matthew Moralee with many gaps along the way as my father has little knowledge of his roots past his own grandfather..... It would be great to share more info! :)

Sarah :)

Hello Sarah

I feel sure that the 'gaps' you express can be filled.

The 'Family' go quite a way back - but not that many people are researching - perhaps because the name is not very prolific.

Being unsure just how much you have - it is a little difficult to know just where to start. Do you for example know of the period they lived and worked at Cornsay ?

Prior to the family leaving for Wales - the main 'Patriarch' was William Henry MORALLEE....

I will need to look at the tree just to see 'our family connection' - my grandmother was Mary Morallee -

To make it easier - just ask for details of your gaps

Jeff

Moralee Family,
I think someone was looking for Matthew Whitfield Moralee, born ib around 1870, son of Isaac Moralee and Jane Whitfield she died in 1932 in Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints where all the family started back in 1700's

Get back to me if this helps any family members

Interested in collating data if you are willing?

I am a Morallee and the people you mention in the first post (such as William H Morallee) are my ancestors.
I believe that the correct spelling of their names) is Morallee (not Moralee) on the records I have for them.

My surname is also spelt Morallee
