Title: Thomas Mitchell - Murder
Post by: crofton142 on Monday 20 February 12 10:29 GMT (UK)
I have a Thomas Mitchell b 1894 Widnes and d 1940 Manchester. (Spouse: Ada Mitchell nee Hunt from Widnes)

Having spoken to two different family members, both say that they were told he was murdered / robbed whilst working on the railways in (or around) Manchester.

Would I be able to find any reference to this in newspaper articles etc. How would I go about looking for this/

TIA
Tanja

On your other thread about this, you were advised to get the death certificate (reference given there). Confirm how he met his end before searching newspaper articles and the like.

Family members both said it was known and apparently in the local newspapers and talk of the pub....he was also a "bit of a drinker" and it was suggested that it was a very suspicious.

Sounds like gossip.
as said purchase the certificate rather than relying on tongue-wagging.

Thanks I will order it. Will it say he was killed/murdered (if he in fact was)?

it will give a cause of death.
If it's cirrosis of the liver we can rule out foul play...
