Title: Finding Mary Attrill (b. Paine) 1776 IOW
Post by: Radhima on Saturday 18 February 12 11:43 GMT (UK)
Have a problem locating first wife's origin on3 x Great Grandfather Mark Attrill's marriage to Mary Paine who died 1808 and was said to be age 32 at death.  Can anyone assist please?  Her only child Mary Ann Attrill was born on 10 April 1808 at Calbourne and Mum died 25/5/1808 buried St Lawrence IOW. Finding this half-sibling to our clutch of brother and sisters from Mark Attrill 2nd marriage to Sarah nee Drudge 1811 - has been impossible so far. ;)

Hi Trish and Daisypetal

Thank you both so much for finds on the baptism of our Mary Paine who m Mark Attrill 1807.  It is looking quite likely that the Island one would fit best.  Not sure if there would be other family baptism of Mary's siblings in Shalfleet.  Possibly it could be a John or a Jane like the parents Daisy petal?

I think that our Mary Paine Pain Payne is unlikely to have come from across the water when she was buried at St Lawrence near Ventnor Isle of Wight.

Many thanks to you both :)

Hi,

This website is very good with Shalfleet records,

http://www.sources.shalfleet.net/

Payne/Pain etc is not an uncommon name on the island so I wonder if it might be worth you calling the record office, as you know her name and approx DOB they might do a quick search in the card index for you :)

Daisypetal

Thank you so very much - what a marvellous site full of family history names of the old Islanders before the 1841 Census, which others may also benefit from greatly.

We had looked at Hillside for Mary Pain before, but without finding any reference but a Card Index marriage for her to Mark Attrill.

We are very grateful for your help Daisypetal ;)
