I am trying to trace the parents of my g g grandma Selena Elverson who was born in Bretby c 1816.I have come up against a brick wall trying to find her parents. Can anyone help ?
-
I have only just seen your enquiry.......is this the same Selena who married John Mantle in leicester..and died in Sneinton Nottingham???
If so, i have everything you can possibly think of except her parents!!......Bretby is very close to Burton on Trent..but i have been unable to find her in any of my records.....
However Bretby appears to have its own Parish records..so next time i go to Matlock records office i'll see if i can find them..........and it may well be the only place that they will be found, because it appears that nobody else has been able to find this baptism..
I'll let you know.
Derek.

That is marvelleous Derek , I had given up on ever finding anyone else researching the Mantles .If you would like to let me have your e mail address I can send you a link to my tree on the Ancestry site and you can see what I have gathered so far.I am descended from Archibald Mantle.
Best wishes from a hot and sunny southern Spain

Hi,
Think you will find that the christening of Selina Elverson, appears as Elverston:-
Christened 24th December 1815 Stapenhill, Derbyshire. (this is near Burton on Trent) the daughter of
William & Mary Elverston.
However their other children also christenend at Stapenhill are recorded as Elverson:-
Mary Ann 11.2.1827
Maryanne 16.7.1820
William Elverson = Mary Hardy 29th March 1807 Hartshorne, Derbyshire.
If you search by Batch Number C058831 on:-
https://familysearch.org/
you will see all the Christenings as above.
For the marriage search by Batch Number M060992

Hi,
If my previous post is for the correct Selina, then in the 1841 Census HO107/192 Folio 16 Pg 26, civil Parish Stapenhill
you will find:-
ALL BORN DERBYSHIRE
William Elverson 56 (1785) Carrier
Mary " "
William " 22 (1819) Agricultural Labourer
Thomas " 19 (1822) " "
Their daughter Mary Ann born 1827 is, I think, listed as Mary Elverson aged 14 a servant living Civil Parish of Hartshorn at the Admiral Rodney Inn. HO107/19 Folio 20 Pg 4.
By 1851 Mary Ann Elverson aged 23 born Newhall is listed as Niece of Joseph Elverson aged 59 born Smisby, Derbyshire. She has a child William Elverson aged 6 months, all living Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire
HO107/2084 Pg 9.
All the above information may assist with further research.
