Title: Wardell John born 1765
Post by: ollietheowl on Thursday 16 February 12 22:22 GMT (UK)
He married an Ann Pattinson in Hamesterly by Bishop auckland in 1791(which I have the marriage details) i have found 1 child Frederick Wardell born 1793 does anyone have any idea whether they had more children.

His parents were I think John Wardell born 1704 and eleanor Briggs born 1730 both in Sedgefield.  I cannot find any details of them also wondering if they had any other children.

Many thanks

Hi maureen

If I find anything else will let you know. Fredrick Wardell is my 4 x great grandfather.

Do you know if John Wardell and Eleanor Briggs  were Fredrick's grandparents.  I cannot find any proof yet.

Thanks  Olwen x

Hi Olwen
Frederick's parent's is far back as I have got on them.
There is someone on An**stry that has gone back to 1674 and they have the Wardell's from Sedgefield.

Hi
I have just come across this so don't know if you have your answer but I have information regarding a John Wardell and his parents, grandparents etc. I have his forward tree and info on sibling and parentage. John Wardell and Eleanor Briggs did not have a child called Frederick and his son John born 1763 did not have a child called Frederick so I think this must be a different branch of the Wardell family. This line tend to use the same names from generation to generation as was the custom and Frederick is not a name that features anywhere in this line.

kind regards

I also have him married to an Ann Pattison, marred in Hamsterley in 1791.  Frederick was born in Hamsterley in 1793 and his parents are listed as John Wardell and Ann (but no maiden name).  Found thid on Famuily search but could find no other in that district.  Do you have any children born to John and Ann pattison.

Hi,
the John Wardell in my tree married a Dinah Rutledge and died in 1810.
I'm thinking yours may not be the same one but a different branch of the same tree. x

Hi Angie,  Have had a look at your John Wardell and Dinah Rutledge.  Do you have have documents that support your findings.   Obviously he married in Trimdon as that is where Dinah is from.  My John married in Hamsterly which is where Ann Pattison came from.  Either one could be  the John Wardell whose parents were John and Eleanor Briggs.   We need proof of this  Frederick had 10 children and they were give the usual Wardell names,
Will carry on digging and see if I can come up with anything.

Regards
Olwen

Hi Owen, many thanks for your reply. I don't have paperwork to prove this connection but some of the info came from another researcher who has a copy of Burkes landed gentry that has a tree.I am certain they are my ancestors as John and Dinahs eldest daughter was Eleanor who married Joseph Hamilton and their daughter was my gg grandmother Dinah Wardell Hamilton. The family lived in Trimdon for many generations.
Best wishes
Angela
