I am unable to find any information other than immigration details. My aunt Catherine Lonsdale b. 10 Aug 1905, Coatbridge, Scotland arrived in Canada in 1923. she went to work for Agnes Fairweather, wife of Justice J.H.A.L. Fairweather, Rothesay, New Brunswick.
On 3 Feb 1929 my uncle Thomas Lonsdale arrived in Canada and his immigration record shows his passage was paid by his sister Mrs Anthony Passens, Stanley Street, Montreal (I am presuming that this is Catherine).
A daughter was born to Catherine in 1929. This daughter was known by the surname Sheppard. (An actress who married actor John Howe in Ottawa 1951). Catherine was married to Harry Sheppard but he was Mary's stepfather. Harry was a boxing promoter in Montreal (1940s) and London (1950s). I believe he was also Branch President of the BESL (lately Canadian Legion), Montreal in 1944. (A lot of newspaper archive about him)
Any information on Catherine, Anthony Passens, Harry Sheppard or Mary Sheppard appreciated.

Thank you Valerie. From your information I have been able to determine that Mary's surname was Passens. She appears on immigration lists with her mother, albeit on different pages. Harry is named as stepfather. All I need now are birth/marriage certs - but i may have to order them. your information has been a great help.

As far as I know, there are only baptismal registrations for Montreal for that time period and no birth certificates or registrations. If you have access to Ancestry (through your local library as some subscribe) you may be able to find the birth, death and marriage through the Druin Collection. I must admit that I am not great at Quebec research. If you go to the resource board, you may find more sites for researching in Quebec and what is availabe on line

Barry,
Anthony Passens was born as Anton Albert Passens in Rotterdam, Holland om October the 17th 1905. All we know about him was that he married a scottish lady and I presume that must be your aunt Catharine Lonsdale. Legend has it that they had many children and Anton was in the Canadian army in WW-II.
Mary must be one of his children.
Like to know more about this family.

jaapP,
Interesting post from you re A.A. Passens and the Scottish lady. That is more than likely my aunt.
I have information re Catherine and would like to know more about her life in Canada. That information is currently unknown to me. The only spouse ever mentioned by family was Harry Sheppard.
