Title: Threadder as a family name

Hi has any one come across the name threadder, used as a first name. my ancestors the halls have confused me by changing their names to threadder on various certificates.
they lived in and around isleham. john and his son James both did this, James born 1838 not sure of johns dob. just wondering why? and does it mean anything

Only thing that comes to mind off the top of my head is that it could have been as a condition of being a beneficiary of a will, but I'm sure there could be other reasons.

It sounds as though it might have been a maiden name used a first name.   If you put 'threader' into ancestry as a first name, there's some with it as a middle name as well.

If you put 'thredder' into ancestry there are a couple of surname Bell showing.
But none with 'threadder'.

hi thanks to you all i will see if i can find any more out. it just seems strange that they are known by their first names and later change that to threadder.
