I have the birth of a Helana Francis Watson LAWRENCE 18th Oct  1914 Reg in Wakefield, YKS to parents John William Victor LAWRENCE and Florence JACKSON.

Trying to find their marriage and when and where etc John was born?

I have John William LAWRENCE'S death cert  June 1953 aged 65, reg in Derby.

Also his 2nd marriage cert to Isabella KEY in Mar 1925 at Basford, NTT / DBY as a widower aged 34 with father as Matthew - deceased.

Any assistance will much appreciated.

Regards Arno

On the census where does John say he was born?

In 1911 census is John married?  If not, then maybe the marriage was between 1911 and 1914.

Hi Charlotte

Sorry.

I have not found John on any Census - lots of possibilities??

I have found his future wife Florence JACKSON aged26, single,
born Long Eaton, DBY living with her sisters Maud and Annie
and mother Mary Ann, nee ATKINS aged 55 on the 1911 Census
living at 339 Nottingham Road, Derby.

Missing husband is Alfred JACKSON b1855 in Stapleford, NTT

Have found this family on 1881, 91 and 1901 census.

Hi Tinam

Approx??  Based on death cert he was born 1887/8??

Birth could be anywhere from 1887 - 1892, I think ??

Derby seems to feature strongly. There is a John William Lawrence birth registration in Derby RD Jul/Sep 1887 - Derby 7b 547.

Is that your tree on Ancestry? I see there is a birth date for John which would fit with the birth registration above

Hi Mosiefish

I don't have Florences birth cert?

Johns occupation on his marriage cert in 1925 is a BOOT REPAIRER and his father Matthew was a FARMER.

Hi Anne

Yes, my tree is on Ancestry

and John William LAWRENCE's  birthday was on 25th August.

Could be the right cert in 1887?  - the only way to confirm his fathers name??

if correct where is his family on the 1891 Census with father Matthew??

Definitely worth a punt on the birth certificate in my opinion!

The only Matthew Lawrence I can find on the census who is remotely like a farmer is an ag lab in Basford in 1881, aged 63, with wife Elizabeth aged 70. Following this couple back through the censuses, in 1871 they are in Southwell Notts with children Ann (24) and Ellen (17). In 1861 they also have a son William born c. 1852 in Borrowash, Derbyshire.

Maybe worth following up Ann and especially Ellen? Perhaps you are dealing with a name change here, possibly because of an illegitimate birth and later reversion to a birth name rather than a step father's.

Incidentally, there is a marriage of a Florence K Jackson to a John Moore in Basford RD Sep 1912. I've no idea whether it's relevant or not, but maybe something to consider.

Good luck!

Anne

Hi Anne

Thanks for info.

Just a thought  your Matthew LAWRENCE b1818 and wife will not be the parents of my John William b1887 ????

I agree definitely looks like a name change!!

Which would explain the missing marriage?

No, I didn't mean to suggest they might be his parents, but grandparents could be a possibility. Although both daughters would be a little bit old to have an illegitimate child in 1887, it's not impossible.
