I have found an old family photograph and wondered if I could trace any info
its of a man in uniform i presume from ww2 and it says
Gnr Winter No 1622583
i wonder if anyone knows what regiment about waht date and if there are any records of this man

Gnr is short for Gunner, so he was in the Royal Artillery. A seven digit number shows he was in the army during the 1920s or later. So his record will still be with the MOD - http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html
The Royal Garrison Artillery had the block from 1400001 to 1842000, so confirms his number was issued very late. Someone on the WW2 section may know more. Or you could just pay the MOD £30 and wait six months.
