Hello, I have traced my gg and ggg grandfathers to Newport.
Captain Thomas Morris was born in Newport in 1820, his father Richard Morris, also a master mariner, was born in Newport in 1790.
Richard married Mary (who was born in 1776 in Wales) at Ebenezer in Newport. He died in Newport in 1878/She died in 1859 in Newport). They were, i believe, non conformists.
There were two other children who may or may not have been Richard's birth children(given their ages and the big age difference between the couple, it is hard to judge).
They show up living with Richard after Mary's death in the 1861 census (Elizabeth Davies - mariner's wife and Anne Philips, widow).
The trail goes cold and I have been unable to find anything definitive as far as Richard's family (there are Morris leads in Llandogo, but it is just guessing). Ditto for Mary, the only Mary I can find in 1776 is in Llandowror, Carmarthen, but again, only guesses).
I was hoping there might be other Morris family members who would know just who Richard's (and Mary's ) parents were and anything else about Elizabeth and Anne!
Thomas was a big mystery, but I have found his records and if anyone is interested, I'm very happy to share!

Richard married Mary (who was born in 1776 in Wales) at Ebenezer in Newport.
Mrge before Sept 1837 was not permitted in non-conformist chapel only baptism and burial. Pre 1837 all mrge must by law take place in the established church. The only exception I believe was Quaker and Jewish.
Therefore I suggest the following ;
Richard Morris mrd Mary Beynon at Newport in 1811.
Given the mariner connection I would contact Dr Reg Davies via ;

Have you looked at the Morris (mariner) wills on ;

forgot to ask about the marriage to Hannah. When did it take place? It's odd that Thomas shows as unmarried on both the 1851 & 1861 census entries.
