Title: Dalkeith Private Hospital, Brisbane.
Post by: ColTree on Wednesday 08 February 12 21:10 GMT (UK)
Could anyone provide some of the background history of the Hospital which was situated in Rose St., Woolloowin, Brisbane.  For example, was it Chruch owned or otherwise.  When it was opened?  I know when it was demolished.  I really would like to know because I have history going back to Dalkeith in Scotland.  Thank you.
Peter

Peter,

The earliest reference I can see for Rose Street is March 1937, there was a Dalkeith Private Hospital earlier at Eagle Junction.

Thanks for the quick reply, Gerry.  I think that this is one and the same Hospital as Eagle Junction and Wooloowin are suburbs next to each other.  Rose St., runs through both of them, which I think was pretty common practice in the early years and I know that people sometimes didn't really know which suburb they were really in.  But getting back to the Hospital, are you able to steer me in the direction where I could find information on it?

Peter,

I got my info from the digitised newspapers at Trove.

I did a search with exclamation marks eg; "dalkeith private hospital" then chose the newspaper.

Peter is there a specific link you are trying to make between the hospital and your family in Dalkeith, Scotland?

If you google "Dalkeith Private hospital" and variants, there are quite a lot of hits, many appear to be genealogical and some are about it's demoliton.

I do have Family links back to Edinburugh, Scotland and Dalkeith is almost a suburb there and I did have Family living in Wooloowin up until the 1950's who also had that same link.  In addition, my childhood home was named Dalkeith, but unfortunately none of my Family is alive to give me the answers I would like.  I have done a check in Google but I haven't seen anything there that would give me the history of the Hospital, which is what I really want to know.  Thanks for your help, I just hope I can find someone who can point me in the right direction regarding the history.
Peter.

Peter,

Maybe try the Brisbane City Council Archives.

Also try the ask a librarian at the State Libray of Queensland, maybe they can help.

Earliest birth as per newspaper references I can find is 1934.  Possibly the house was owned by the Stewart family.

I was born in Dalkeith Private Hospital in Rose Street in 1945. My cousin (now deceased) was admitted to Dalkeith Private Hospital in the mid 1950's where he was found to have contracted diabetes. I don't know what year the hospital was demolished as I left my parent's home at Wooloowin in 1970 to work down south.
