Hello.
Does anyone live near to Doddington Church? My ancestor Richard Ridge was Rector there during 1930's, He died there (the Isle of Ely) in 1949 but is buried in Hyssington Church yard Shropshire, near where his family lived . He has a William Morris window dedicated to him in Doddington Church and I wondered if anyone had a photo of this or any info on his time there?
Many Thanks

If you are interested in further info on Richard Ridge you should be able to find it in Crockfords Clerical Directory.

Thank you,
I had not heard of this directory, it may be useful for info on Richard's Brother's too.

Jan, Crockfords usually gives a summary of the cleryman's career...education, parishes in which he's been vicar, name of wife and so on.
If you know the year od death of the man, sometimes the volume after that year will give an obit which adds more info.

Charlotte,
Thanks for that. I did have a quick look on the internet and couldn't find anything, so it looks as though the best way will be for me to buy a copy of the directory somewhere. I'm not sure if I have to have specific years or not? I do know he was born in 1868 and died in 1949. I also believe he worked in London and Cambridgeshire amongst other places.

Jan, no need to buy a copy. To do that anyway you'd need to know which years you wanted as it's published every two{?} years .
A large library, sucg as a good university library, should hold copies and if you are near an Anglican Cathedral or theological College they may well hold the series.
I have a vague memory of someone saying it is on the net... that needs careful checking as it's obviously the easy way for you.

Hi Charlotte,
I did give that site a go, but my Richard never came up and it seems you have to subscribe for more info. There is quite a large library not too far from here, so I think I'll give them a ring and see if they hold copies of the directory!
Thanks once again for all your help.

Jan, If that library can't helpyou, why not put a new post on here in The Common Room board headed something like
' Crockford Lookup please". Theere are bound to be RCers able to help. Worth a try.
let us know how you get on please.

Charlotte,
What a good idea!
I'm fairly new to using this site and haven't really got my head around all that can be done on it! Will do that now. Full up with a flu/cold thing at the moment, so a library trip is definitely out!

Poor you with a stuffed up head :( :(
When you feel better tackle it then, and do let us know how you get on.

Jan, that's great ;D
Don't forget that in the edition following death there may be a global comment in the form of obit that could give you insights.
