Title: Doctor Ernest Cutcliffe Hadley. Leicester.
Post by: Yvonne Lay on Wednesday 01 February 12 05:28 GMT (UK)
Hello,

Would anyone have any information on Doctor Ernest Cutcliffe Hadley of Leicester. He previously was in Birmingham and moved to Leicester Gen Hospital (previously know as Poor Law Local and County).

I have his birth, marriage and death dates but would like to find out more about this man.

Thank you,

Yvonne.

Freebmd shows him b March qtr 1875 Aston Warwickshire  died 1947 Leicester

It sounds as though you are looking for more personal info about him that perhaps only a living descendant could provide

Thank you both for the postings. The FMB information is correct, but I am looking for any obituaries written in newspapers, but I am afraid I am getting no where with it.  I have checked Medical Journals etc with him mentioned in many of them.

Thank you again.

Yvonne.

I notice you had a reply in 2009 on another forum mentioning a possible relative in the RAF in the 1950's - were you able to follow it up?

That particular relative married in 1953 in Birmingham but was born in Leicestershire to the marriage below

Ernest appears to have married late in life

Marriages September qtr 1928
Jessie M Bishop to Ernest C  Hadley  Barnstaple  5b 1002

Yes I followed up on the relative and Ernest did marry late in life and passed away in 1947. From what I can find out he had 4 children.  Ernest came from a family of Medical Practitioners.

Hi Yvonne
This man was my grandfather though he died before I was born when my own father was only 16. He did indeed marry late in life and had four children 3 boys and 1 girl. The eldest son is my father also a doctor, who is well and active for his 82 years (b 1930). I have seen your correspondance with my cousin Jane and my father is aware of the existence of his half sister Elsie .
I can't tell you much about my grandfather as I never knew him but if you have any specific questions I could ask my father.
Ironically my father has lived in the Coburg district of Melbourne for over 40 years.

Hello Daisy,

Is your father practising in Merlynston. Victoria?

I am Bertha (Elsie's mother) grandaughter.  I was trying to find out the personality of your grandad and what he was like. I know he was a very respected doctor from all accounts.

I only found out about Elsie about 4 years ago,

If you would like my  personal email address I will give it to you.

Thankyou for being in touch,

Yvonne.

Hello Yvonne,

Your message caught my eye because my wife had some distant Lay relatives in Leicester, descended from William Lay of Coventry.

You may have seen these before but there are two trees on Ancestry owned, I believe, by descendants of Ernest Hadley.

One of these is the daughter of Cecil, the second son. It might be worth trying to make contact.

Regards,
David

Hi David,

Thank  you for your message. Lay is my married name, my husband's family all come from around the Birmingham area. I'm afraid I don't know if any are in the Leicester area.

With Ernest Hadley, thank you for letting me know.

Kind regards,
Yvonne.

Hello Daisy,

I was wondering if your father knew if Bertha worked for your Grandfather please?  This is the story we have been told by family members.

Elsie's daughter and I would love to find out more with anything you or your father are willing to tell us.  Please do not upset him on any questions you don't want to ask him.

I thank you for getting in touch earlier in the week,

Kind regards,

Yvonne.

Hi Yvonne
I am not sure where my father practices. He is 82 don't forget - though I know he still does work on a part time basis. He and my mother divorced when I was very young. My brother and I stayed with my mother in England. My daughter and I now live in France.
However despite the distances I have stayed in good contact with my father. He comes over to Europe every two years and I am expecting to see him this year in September all being well. By all means send me your e-mail address. Best regards.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me. I was interested in knowing if he knew much about my grandmother Bertha Jarvis and Ernest Cutcliffe Hadley.  Any information would be great.  I would like to know, example,  if she worked for him, we in the family in Australia,  have been told she did, but we have had several stories told to us by family some are right, some aren't.  I don't want to upset anyone in your family, I  am working  to find out about my grandmother's history for my cousin and I.

I appreciate you contacting me, thank you.

Yvonne.

Hello Yvonne again,
I am trying to contact Ernest's eldest son who lives in Australia and who did mention so us that Ernest had had another daughter, but only told us a year or so ago and was not full of facts at the time.
I am assuming that that daughter is Elsie, whose mother is Bertha, who, it would seem, you think may have worked for him......???before he married Jesse and had their 4 children? Also, that your cousin is Elsie's daughter or son?
I have now spoken to their only daughter (Jesse's and Ernest's) who knows of Elsie, who we think was born in 1910 or so. I gather you have been in touch with his grandaughter on second eldest's son side.
All very interesting!
Penny

Hello Penny,

Yes Elsie was born in 1908. My grandmother was sent to her Aunt and Uncle in Hucknull Torkard to have her. My grandmother married my grandfather in 1914 and they immigrated to Australia in 1926. They had 4 children, their second eldest was my Dad.  I am in touch with my cousin (Elsie's daughter) in England.
If you would like to contact me to keep things private I will give you my email address.

Best Wishes,

Yvonne.

I don't know anything of my Grandparents and never met any from either side of my family.
My father, has not ever talked to me about it, you could PM me and I could put you in touch with him directly

Hi again,

We wouldn't like to upset your father by asking questions. We would like to find out more on our Grandmother's life when she was young and to fill in some answers to questions we have about her.

Could you tell me please how I send you my personal email address on this page and mark it private. I have never done this before and I don't know how to do it.

Thank you,
Yvonne.
