Hello!
Can anyone help me locate the marriage of John Gisborne (b.1797, in Staffordshire) to Anne Susan Coates ? I believe the marriage took place in 1834, in Manchester, Lancashire.
The groom's family came from Staffordshire, his parents being John Gisborne - originally of Yoxall, Staffordshire - and Millicent Sacheverell Chandos Pole, originally of Radborne Hall, Derbyshire.
The marriage took place in 1834, but I can't find it.
Many thanks in anticipation. You haven't failed me yet!

(John was at sea by about 1815, aboard the HMS Asia, and records of him are rather scanty - although he turns up in the 1871 census as a 'Retired Naval Officer', ending his days in Devonshire, still married to Anne Susan.)

According to the FamilySearch site, it took place on 1 May 1834 in Manchester, but which parish it doesn't say :( I'm trying to work it out from the batch number, but not doing very well.

The licence to the above marriage found by Nell, was issued on the 28th April 1834 and states the intended marriage between John Gisborne of Darley Dale and Anne Susan Coates was to take place at the church of St John, in the parish of Manchester.
Kind regards,
Pels.

The licence does state where Anne was from, I have a fairly good knowledge of Lancashire and the Manchester area - but I couldn't make out where it was supposed to be.
Here's the link to the deciphering board where I've asked for help to find it :

Brilliant - everyone came up trumps with Smedley and I'd definitely agree that's what it says ! :)

Thank you very much indeed. Sorry for the tardy reply - didn't get a notification. Better late than never!

Hi Greenman,
Have just come across this conversation re John Gisborne b.1797. For various reasons, I also have a keen interest in the Gisborne family of Yoxall and their connections.
Not sure how we can exchange email addresses securely via Rootschat, but somehow hope we can get in touch and share findings.
Regards,
WC
