Hi all
Was wondering if some kind soul could look up the following for me in the Otley parish registers in Suffolk?
I have a John Fosdike (Forsdike or Forsdyke) and Elizabeth Wythe who married in Otley on 14th Feb 1803 (according to Findmypast data)
So far I've been able to find they had the following children:
Eli - born around 1810
Sarah - born around 1821
Maria - born around 1826
Elizabeth - born around 1827
I would like to have their baptism dates.
I know John was buried 1st Dec 1849 in Otley aged 68 (again from FindMyPast) and that Elizabeth was buried 15th Jan 1861 aged 84.
So - did John and Elizabeth have any more children?
I have information from someone that John was born 1780 - son of Thomas Forsdike and Sarah Chattern. I have no date for their marriage.
Thomas was buried 17th July 1830 aged 74. I have no information about Sarah.
Including John they apparently had the following children:
Thomas & Sarah born 1776
Nathaniel born 1785
Sophia born 1787
Elizabeth & Harriet born 1793
Geoffrey born 1797
Jemima born 1800
Thomas was apparently born 1756 the son of Thomas Forsdyke (born 1718?) and Elizabeth Woolnough who married in 1748 in Otley. Thomas was buried 16th Feb 1791 and Elizabeth was born around 1724 and died in 1777 (I have no dates just years).
As well as Thomas they had the following children:
Elizabeth born 1750
Frances born 1753
Mary born 1754
Ann born 1758
William born 1760
John born 1762
Andrew born 1763
Joseph born 1766
I would like the proper dates of baptism and marriage dates from the parish register to back up this information passed to me.
Also - the name Wythe is quite uncommon (often seems to be spelled With or Wyth) so I would like to know more about Elizabeth Wythe - census information puts her year of birth around 1783 but her age at burial puts it more around 1777.
I have noted down Wythe marriages and burials in Otley found on Findmypast so would like to know if these connect with my Elizabeth's family or not:
Ann Wythe married John Hurrin widower of Framsden 11th Oct 1779 Otley
James Wythe married Mary Johnson of Framsden 9th Nov 1779 Otley
William Wyth buried 19th Nov 1752 - infant
Ann Wythe buried 1760 (no precise date given)
Dorothy Wythe buried 15th Dec 1762
Robert Wythe buried 30th Sep 1764
Mary Wythe buried 11th March 1768 - infant
Elizabeth Wythe buried 23rd Feb 1792
James Wythe buried 3rd Dec 1809 - aged 83 (guessing the James who married Mary in 1779)
Mary Wythe buried 17th Dec 1809 - aged 85 (guessing this is James' wife Mary Johnson)
William Wythe buried 7th Feb 1814 aged 61
Mary Wythe buried 29th Oct 1820
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Alex

Alex: I'm totally confused - not difficult, I know ::) ::) I have the CD of Otley Parish Registers 1750s - 1812 produced by Yorkshire Parish Registers and there is no mention of any Wyth(e) or Fo(r)sdi(y)ke in baptisms, burials or marriages.

Hi BumbleB - sorry but this has been posted in the Suffolk county board for Otley in Suffolk not Yorkshire - so probably why you're not finding anything! Will modify my original post to make sure it is clear for anyone looking!

Phew, that's a relief ;D ;D

Hello Alex,
I don’t think I shall be much help to you with your Otley request.
I was interested in the mention of Wythe. I have a Roseanna (Rose Ann) Wythe – she married Robert Vice on 17/11/1811 at Framlingham. They are my 4xGrand-parents. Roseanna was born 1785 and she died 1820. I haven’t conclusively been able to go back any further with Wythe. Framlingham is about 10 miles from Otley.
There has been a half dozen or so posts on the name Wythe on Rootschat, if you go to ‘Search’ on Rootschat and just tick the Suffolk requests only etc.,with the name Wythe requested, you can see them.
Mary.

Thanks Mary - will check them out!

According to FindMyPast Thomas Forsdike and Sarah Chatten married 1776 Otley (no full date given) per Boyds Index.
Online coverage of Otley parish records is pretty patchy - did find the following born to John and Elizabeth:
Benjamin bp.6/6/1814
Harriet bp.2/2/1819
Charles bp.1/11/1820 ) twins??
Sarah bp.1/11/1820 )
James bp.11/8/1822
Maria bp.11/7/1824.

Annes
Can you check the registers to see if there were any burials for the first children of John and Elizabeth?
Mary Ann
Louisa
I have come across a marriage in 1824 on Findmypast for a Mary Ann Fosdike to a John Broom - so this may well be for this Mary Ann as she would have been about 20 years old. But just want to be sure in case there were any other Mary Ann's in Otley who it could relate to! I've found a John and Marianne Broom in 1851 from Otley and it looks like she was born around 1797 so may be too old to be my Mary Ann.
I did also see a marriage in 1823 for a Louisa Fosdike to a John Pipe but as my Louisa would have only been about 12 then I think it unlikely it was her (I know it was legal then to marry at 12 but it was a rare occurrence to marry so young by that time - more of a common thing during the middle ages/tudor times etc when life expectancy was a lot shorter!)
(Not Frederic as I have found him in later life)
I know the Otley burial records on Findmypast start at 1813 so just in case any of them died in infancy prior to 1813?
Were there any other Fosdike/Forsdyke/Forsdike PR entries relating to this family (i.e. any other baptisms for children of Thomas and Elizabeth in the 1750s - 1770s and any more for Thomas and Sarah - and then Thomas and Mary his second wife?
Was there a baptism in the PR's for Elizabeth Wyth(e)?
Many thanks again for your help Annes, it really is much appreciated! Let me know if you have any Wiltshire ancestors as I could perhaps help there!
***** Update - sorry Annes - have been told you looked this information up for me at the Records Office - thank you so much! Not to worry about going to check specifically for me for all of that! But if anyone out there has a transcription of the PRs it would be much appreciated! *****
