Hi Victoria,

I have just been looking at your earlier posts and trying to get clues.
Luke Burke who married Mary Foy/Mooney came from Mayo.

I can see Ellen Foy Roche born Roscommon.

I haven't followed any of the others but wonder have you done so? Where do you get Mayo from as the origins of Patrick and Mary?

The problem is that their birth dates are before civil legislation in Ireland

Hello, that's the one I read and it sounds very exciting for you.

I think there is some census info which also says Mayo for some family members. It is just the one where Ellen is born Roscommon that is confusing.
It may be that she was born near to Mayo/Roscommon border.

As your family were born pre-1864 records you would need parish records adn knowledge of townland/area.

Here is some information for you:
My Ancestor came from Ireland (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html)

Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

There are also some resources for Mayo on this forum.

I know you are getting info now from your new relation  :) but do you have Patrick's death?
I wondered if this is him buried in Ford Cemetery?

7th August 1864 Patrick Foy 36 yrs  2 Ct  Collingwood Street

Collingwood St figures quite a bit so it looks very promising

Where does the information come from re Patrick's father being Daniel?

By the way in 1871 Luke and Mary Burke are at 5 house 9 court Collingwood Street

I saw the surname Foy many places when I visited Co Mayo a few years ago.
My relatives are from the same area, a Dominic(k) Roach/Roache/Roch and Bridget Mulloy who married in Killedan.
Any connection there?

Thank you so much. I searched for death record for Patrick Foy but was unsuccessful. So far I have not found any Irish records for Roche/Roach family. I need to get a sub to search records. My relative informed me that Daniel was father of Patrick, awaiting her reply hopefully for more records.

There is a birth on Free BMD for Patrick Fay September quarter 1864 which would fit with the burial in Ford cemetery.

Also a death for Peter Foy, 23 yrs in 1874 which matches a burial December 1874 Ford cemetery.
This matches with 1871 census. The address is Collingwood Street

Thank you. Peter Foy must have been the brother of Martin Foy and brother to my Ellen Foy.
Perhaps Margaret Foy married??

? Do you think that perhaps Mary Foy was pregnant before her husband Patrick SNR died ?

1871 looks to have 2 families- the Foys and the Burkes.

Peter Foy 19 yrs ...dies 1874
Margaret Burke 15 yrs
Ellen Foy 13 yrs
Mary Burke 11 yrs
Martin Foy 10 yrs
Ellen Burke 8 yrs

The Foys are all listed as 'adopted'

I would say that this indicates that the Burke children are Luke's.

Ellen Burke is born in Ireland so, if the death in 1864 is Patrick, then Mary Foy will not be the mother.

I hope this is what you meant  :)

I don't know where the info re Margaret comes from but she is not with the family in 1871. She could be older than Peter and away from home or married as you say.
When was she born?

I think Luke Burke who was born in Co Mayo had been married before ? Ireland ? Ellen Foy age 13 was my great grandmother in 1877 when she married was a minor. Dont know when Margaret was born this was information sent to me by relative. Where were Luke and Mary Burke 1871. As you suggested Margaret Burke 15 Mary 11 Ellen 8 were possibly from a first marriage.
Thank you so much the family are coming together.

In 1871 Luke and Mary and children are at 5 House 9 Court Collingwood Street.

Yes it looks as though Luke Burke was a widower with those 3 girls- all born Ireland.

I was thinking that someone in your family must have the marriage certificate of Luke and Mary in order to have her maiden name and her father's name.

Thinking on those lines, I wondered where you would get Daniel Foy from as father to Patrick since there is no marriage found yet for him and Mary and then his early death. :-\

My FOYs are from Co Mayo.  In the 1830's several lived in Carramore, Backs/Knockmore, according to baptism records which also show some as sponsors for one another's children.  There are several different Patrick FOYs at the same time, likely all closely related.  Some of the other families with them there were SYRON/SYNON, MANLEY/MUNNELLY.  There are several places called "Carramore" one is sw of Ballina, one just w of Lacken, another nr Belmullet.  My ancestor Patrick FOY b est 1797 m Catherine MANLEY MUNNELLY abt 1827.  All but one of their children were baptized in Co Mayo, except the youngest who was b after they emigrated to Waukegan, IL, USA in 1849.  Shortly before they left Ireland they were living in Ballina, south & east sides.  Various misspellings incuding FAY, FARY on US census records.  I have a large tree, including some in England & PA, also dna results FTDNA, dna.Ancestry, GedMatch.  Would love to connect.
