This is my great granmother Charlotte Wakeford, born in 1883 in London and died in 1932 in Vancouver. Any ideas of a date of this photo? I dont actually have the original photo, it was scanned and emailed to me. It does appear to have rounded corners and some kind of stamp in the bottom right hand corner, but cant make out what it says.
Thanks

Crikey Adam,that's some hat.Around 1905 - 10 would be my guess.

Agree with George, these large hats almost the same size as the brim were a short lived style from about 1907-10.Her dress style is also typical of this date.
This is a postcard & this type where the card is the photographic medium were introduced about 1907.

wow quick response! excellent thanks guys. I thought it would be around this time as she looks like shes in her mid 20s.
Can you tell anything else from what she is wearing...to me it looks like expensive clothes? do the flowers in her left hand and hair mean anything?
thanks

Hi Adam...I love your photo and have repaired it and wondered if you wanted me to post it on the board as we can only restore on request or with the posters permission...there's no pressure as I enjoyed doing it anyway and I will understand if you don't want it.

The flowers look like a corsage so may be a post wedding photo. or may mean nothing at all.

Hi Jim,
thats an interesting theory, I'll see if i can find out if any of her brothers or sisters were married around the time we think the photo was taken

Hi Adam....I left the original tones picked up by the scanner as I think they enhance the mood of the photo.
