Title: Italian Immigration To Glasgow
Post by: beseeinyou on Monday 30 January 12 18:59 GMT (UK)
Hi,

My Grandfather immigrated into the UK and ended up in Glasgow from a small Italian village called Vallerotonda probably sometime around 1900 - 1914.

Would anyone know how I can find out how he journeyed and where & when he exactly landed in the UK?

Thanks

sorry, hope I didn't cause confusion.  I forgot to add 1901 census to 2nd entry. Fixed now.

Just to clarify, I know he was born in Vallerotonda in 1885 and that he came to the UK on his own, his parents never left Italy.

He somehow ended up in Glasgow and married a Scottish woman in 1914 from which my own family began.

What I don't know is when he arrived in the UK and what port of entry he came in, I guess I'm thinking along the lines of immigration records or something?

Scotlands People does not have him in the 1911 census so I'm guessing he probably arrived some time between the 1911 census and him showing up on the marriage record in 1914?

Is there some way of checking when people arrived in the country?

The family listed, starting with  'Lesidio' is actually CESIDIO Volante, and is my Great Grandfather's Brother. He was born in Gallinaro, Italy and came to live in Birmingham. All other names on the list are Cesidio's wife and children, and none of them went to Glasgow.
