Hi all,
This is my gg grandmother Alice Lingard (1850-1935). As can be seen, the original has been badly touched up by someone in the past (perhaps the original photographer???). Could it please be restored and dated. I think it may have been taken on the IOM.
Thankyou
Adrianne

Oh dear :(
My guess would be that the photo was either 1) overexposed or 2) reprinted without a negative...and suffering from a lack of detail was "enhanced" by the photographer. Then the developed image faded over time but the ink used for touchup didn't. Just a guess.
As to date, the format of the portrait is early 1900s and by the lace collar she is wearing I would guess at about 1905-1910. Best I can do for you.
Cheers,
China
