Title: Battle of Spion Kop Captain Somerset E D Webb

I am trying to locate information about the military career of Captain Somerset Edward Deane Webb I know that he was born in 1867 and was in the York and Lancaster Regiment at some point. I also know that he was involved in the battle of Spion Kop we know that he lived on the hengherst estate which is near to us. We are interested as my daughter is doing a project at school on the Boer War and we would like to put in a little bit of local information any help of where is good to look would be greatly appreciated I have tried Ancestry and also find my past

He was a Captain in 1899 off Harts list 1902 initially served with 1st Batt 14 yrs service so maybe worth checking campaign medals on ancestry for pre-boer war stuff also

Married Evelyn Schrieber in Nov 1899 at Henghurst..

Thank you all very much we know that he was retired after Spion Kop with a mental illness of some sort and that he is buried in our local churchyard we have been to see the grave today and one of the fields near us is named Spion Kop after his involvement in the battle. I have now got some campagn medal details which I think is enough for the school project but I am going to carry on searching as its all geting very interesting now
