Hi,
I am unable to access a WWII Service record because I do not know the date of birth of the soldier I'm interested in, or his regiment. I have been unable to locate a birth certificate, and no clue remains as to the details of his service whatsoever.
I know his full name, approximate age and home address.
Does anyone know of an effective way of finding out his regiment from such limited information?
Many thanks
Andrew

Andrew have you found a possible death cert?
If you cant prove that the former soldier is dead then you will get a limited release from MOD of his records.
That said id just put everything you do know on the Search and Request form
Local papers MAY give you something if he was wounded or was awarded a medal

Hi,
I have a death certificate which is of no help I'm afraid.
The record cannot be located by them they say without either birth date or regiment.
The length of service was short and unremarkable (discharge: ill health).
Thanks
Andrew
