Guys ime stuck on this search, we are looking for a marriage between Elizabeth (betsy) Dixon born about 1841 Abbeytown Cumbria and Frederick Vonderscheff(not sure on the spelling) born about 1841 Berlin, their first child William Fredrick was born about 1873 in Dublin. Any help would be great
-
I can see some bits on the family :
Frederick Vondercheff died 1884 Registered Birkenhead, Cheshire
Betsy Vondercheff died 1927 Registered Birkenhead, Cheshire
Mum Betsy (widow) on 1891 census with children : William, Adam, Thomas, Elizabeth & George
I can't find anything else though in Ireland or England.

In the 1891 census Betsy is down as Elizabeth and born Cumberland. Son William born (c1873) Dublin but rest of children born at various places in England.
In 1901 Betsy's transcribed as Elizabeth Voandercheff born Abbeytown, Cumberland. Son William's birthplace is 'Ireland.' Adam, Thomas and George are also in the household.

1881 family's in Birkenhead-
Fredredich H. O. Vondearcheff age 40 born Berlin, Prussia (occupation- painter). William is listed as Fredredich Vondearcheff born Ireland.
-
Frederick's death registeration gives him as Frederick W Vondercheff.
-
cheers guys, its the Ireland link ime after
-
The only Irish link looks likely to be son William/Fredredich born c1873 Dublin(?). Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 and is online (free)- www.familysearch.org.
I did search for him/the surname earlier but couldn't find anything.
-
and the surname got no matches on RootsIreland either.
-
The only things I came across as 'registered' were the deaths of Frederick and Betsy. None of the births in Ireland or England seem to be registered. Is it possible they were from different religions and this may explain the lack of paperwork ? Just a theory !
Sorry, I have just seen that you have this family well researched on the Liverpool Board !
Good Luck

cheers guys, its a strange one, but bar the few census details we know nothing about them or what happened to any of the children
-
It's likely, from the records I found, that the surname was mistranscribed and it's possible that some/all of the children could have changed their surname to something more English sounding.

most likely, but that makes things very difficult

Not sure if you have this:
death - if it is him, he didn't move far and I think the age is out a bit:
Adam Vandershaff 95 yrs
Liverpool North Jul-Aug-Sep 1964 vol 10d pg 255

How do you know that Betsy/Elizabeth is a Dixon? Do you have her in 1871?

we are not 100 percent sure, but a relative whose grandmother was Elizabeths daughter said it was Dixon, but she knows nothing else about that side as her branch settled in Canada in 1923 and her mother didnt speak about her family much
-
It would have been better if you explained at the start that Dixon was only a possibility for Betsy's maiden name ;) Unfortunately, many of the searches I did yesterday were with the surname Dixon so it's quite possible I missed finding the real records.

I think there is an Elizabeth Dixon around but not sure re 1871 and therefore no use in finding anything about her or Frederick.
They would have had to meet it seems after 1871 and at least 9 months before William's birth in 1873. Dublin is the mystery - as well as the name and the births etc ;)

There are about 5 years between William's birth and the next child- perhaps Frederick was married previously or Betsy had him before she and Frederick married.
