Hello there,
I am looking for a baptism record for Melona Tate born c1811 Guyzonmills, Northumberlandshire. The daughter of William Franklin Tate and his wife Eleanor Wortley.

Welcome to RootsChat
You have posted this on the Durham board, it would be better on the Northumberland board. Also it is Northumberland, never Northumberlandshire :)

Welcome to Rootschat bobbyduck.
Hopefully someone will come up with that for you.
Bounty Emigrants has Melona BROWN, age 26 c 1813, with Spouse, on the Andromache 1839.
Parents William TAIT and Eleanor DURHAM (Daug of Wesley Durham)
I can find Christenings of possible Siblings for Melona;
TATE, Parents WILLIAM/ELEANOR
Framwell or Claypath Chapel, Durham, Durham, England
Jemima Flora Hentuckiana TATE, 24 May 1801, Birth 23 May 1801
William Washington Franklin TATE, 26 Sept 1802, Birth 19 Sept 1802
Linoeus Edwards Crallena, 12 March 1804, Birth 07 March 1804
(Source Familysearch.Org)
Now the IGI has an Extracted Marriage;
William Franklin TATE
Eleanor WORTLEY, 17 June 1800, Jarrow, Durham
Could Eleanor have been Widowed and nee Durham???
Trish :)

I see William Washington Franklin Tate and his wife Mary ,names their daughter Eleanor Melona Tate
Felton,3rd of Feb 1834

The three children baptized in Durham have fairly exotic names for the North East. The oldest one is actually Jemima Flora Kentuckiana Tate. I wonder if William had links with the United States. On all three baptisms the parents are "of the Parish of Framwellgate". They were at a Non Conformist Chapel, so Melona could have been baptized in one of the Non Conformist Chapels in Alnwick or Morpeth area.
I think the marriage in Jarrow is the right one.
On the Assisted Immigrant Passenger List for the Andromache, Melona Brown is described as :
"A native of Guyzonmills Northumberlandshire, daughter of Wm Tait Dyer of the same place, and of Eleonor Tait, daughter of ---- Wortley Durham.
Calling - Cook and House Keeper
Age on embarkation - 26"

The names of the children of Melona and the children of Wiliam Washington are consistant. eg Dorothy Ursula, Eleanor Melona, Alice. So therefore I believe Melona is a member of this Tate Family

Thank you Alan,
I have found in the IGI an Eleanor Tait. Father- William Tait, Mother- Eleanor. Christened 17th April 1816 Pottergate Street Scotch Presbyterian or Protestanainwicknters, Alnwick, Northumberland, England.
Would This be a non conformist Chapel?
Bob.

Yes, according to the IGi Batch No's for Northumberland it is a Pottergate St Scotch Presbyterian or Protetant Dissenters.

With regards to the Framellgate connection there is a JANE Wortley born c 1793, Unm, Shopkeeper, living there in 1851 Census. She is also born Framellgate.
+ another Jane Wortley, Widow, born c 1795, Durham with a Son Washington Wortley born c 1837, Durham.
Wlfie may be right with the USA connection or maybe a Military one.

Full text of the Eleanor Tait baptism at the Scotch Church in Pottergate Street, Alnwick.
"Eleanor, daughter of William Tait, Hynd at Stamford in the Parish of Embleton and County of Northumberland and Eleanor his wife was born 29 March and baptized 17 April 1816."
Stamford is about 15 miles north of Guyzance (modern name for Guizon and many other spellings), not that far considering they had moved from Durham, so it could be them. No Melona baptism in the right time frame there, or any other children of a William and Eleanor Tate/Tait.
On the marriage license of William Franklin Tate and Eleanor Wortley, issued June 13 1800, (on the index on FamilySearch), William is aged 21 years and upwards, a Widower of Jarrow, Eleanor is aged 21 years and upwards, of Jarrow. Second Marriage bond guarantor is a Robert Dudgeon, Tailor, of South Shields. Witnesses at the marriage were a George and Jane Jamison.
A couple of burials at Felton St. Michael that might be significant, given that William Washington Franklin Tate was married there in 1827 and having his children baptized there from 1828 onwards, and that Melona claimed to be from Guizonmills.
13 March 1814, Eleanor wife of William Tate, Schoolmaster, of Guizon, age 34.
18 Dec 1816, William Tate, Schoolmaster of Guizon, aged 43.

This Jane Wortley is in my tree, a 4 x great aunt! Her maiden name was Oliver & she married Thomas Wortley in 1816. What is interesting is her mother's maiden name was Tate! Her mother, Mary Tate was baptised at Haughton le Skerne in 1773, the daughter of John Tate & Mary Brown.
