Title: William Owen
Post by: RogJO on Tuesday 24 January 12 17:31 GMT (UK)
Would be interested in any information on my ancestor, William Owen of Shrewsbury (1791-1872), illiterate and a bricklayer by trade who became a Freeman of Shrewsbury in October 1812 and had 7 children with his wife Martha Price who originally came from Overton.

Hi

Unsure if any of this helps...

Source, Swan Hill Chapel Reg:
1 Apr 1789 William s. of Evan & Elizabeth Owen, Dog Lane, bap.

Source, IGI (extr):
12 Jun 1791 William s. of John Owen & Anne, St Mary, Shrews., bap.

Source, Family Search:
1815 William Owen and Martha Price, St Mary, Shrews., mar.

There is also a fairly well documented tree on Ancestry, re the family, though it doesn't include Williams' parents.

Regards
Geoff

Thank you Geoff for your response.  I have the basic information about William's birth, marriage, death and offspring and descendents and the fact that John and Anne were his parents but cannot be certain of which John.  John Owen was a very common name in the Shrewsbury area.  I have four  possibilities with the likely one to be the John christened at St. Mary's on 8th February 1749 to John and Elizabeth (nee Morris) Owen who had married at St. Mary's on 28th December 1747.  However, there is not complete compatibility with all the facts known to me with this or any of the other possible Johns.
