Can somebody please help? I am trying to find the maiden name of my Great Grandmother. She was married in 1880 to Robert Grimmer in Sheffield I can find him on the records 9c 607 and I know that her name is Theressa but cannot find one that corresponds.
-
There are 2 Theresa's marrying in December qtr 1880, in Sheffield (the same as Robert Grimmer).
Theresa Emily W Bell
Theresa Ledger
Theresa Bell seems to be indexed OK.
Theresa Ledger, the page number is very hard to read from the index page.
So I reckon this is the one.
The only way to be certain is to purchase either the marriage certificate (and so see her father's name) or the birth certificate of any of her children (to see her maiden name).

FreeBMD has the following listed:
Marriages
December 1880
Allen Tresa (sic)
Chambers Anne Elizabeth
Grimmer Robert Ladle
Schofield George William
All Sheffield - Vol 9c - Page 607
So it looks as though Robert Ladle GRIMMER married Tresa ALLEN.

Thank you all that's brilliant. I have just put a new ancestry programme on my PC and I think that I have been overdoing it. :D I had spent that long looking that I couldn't see the wood for the trees. I have seen that many different records with Teresa spelt many ways. Teresa Allen seems to be the right one though thanks once again he was Robert Ladle Grimmer as my Grandmother was Ladle grimmer. I always used to think she had a funny name.
Sylvia.

I have just been looking at the original 1871 census and Mary Ladel is Robert 's Father's Mother not mother in law . I suspect that she must have been married twice hence the name Ladel Grimmer or perhaps just living with his Father and not even married. On the transcript is says Mrs Sadel so I didn't take much notice then again it says Gummer not Grimmer so just goes to prove a closer inspection is needed to all records.

Hello,
I just found this thread and I am researching the Grimmer family for my friend. His great great grandfather was Robert Ladle Grimmer.
i am stuck with finding the marriage details for Robert's grandfather William who married Dianah ??
Their first child was Anne (born about 1830) and then John, Elizabeth, Robert (Robert Ladle's father),George, Mary and William.
I think William Grimmer and Diana spent their whole lives in West Rudham, as William died there in 1878.
Any can help with William's marriage would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hope this link works for you. It is at Locke park Barnsley the chap with the beard is Robert Ladle Grimmer my G grandfather. The boy at the side of him is my dad Robert lived near the park at this time and both him and Teresa are buried in Barnsley.I think this would be around the time of his wife's death as it also has my aunty and my paternal grandad and a cousin of dads on it. Robert L Grimmer was my grandmother's father.

Hello,
Thanks for the information. I have never heard of Pallot's Marriage Index. ..a great find!
Do you have anything on William's father? He was Robert Grimmer, born 1771, married Ann Hunt 9th July 1793 in All Saints Church, North Barsham and that is all I know. I can't find his parent's names. Does Pallot do a baptism index?!
I found the picture of Robert ladle on a family tree on Ancestry. It is wonderful to see what he looked like.
Did you attach the photo? as couldn't find a link in the message.
Thank you so much for taking the time to hep me.
-
You would have got the photo off my family tree in ancestry as it was one my Mum and dad had. I know a few people have copied it and I don't mind as otherwise they would all get lost with time. There is a baptism index on ancestry . I'm not sure how far I've got with the Grimmer family as I have been concentrating more on my paternal side that was Windle. The link that I put on is to a photo on this site but is the same one as ancestry a family in Locke park with a fountain.
Sylvia.
Try the link on my post above yours it works for me..

Hi, yes the link works. It's a great photo. Now I'll continue my search for Robert Grimmer Born 1771 and his details.
It's a never ending story!
Thanks for your help.
