From TROVE
Looks as though their deaths may have been close together. However there is more than one Leonard LOVEGROVE in SA papers and I note that the trees on a commercial site seem to me to have mixed up the generations. There are many mentions for Leonard LOVEGROVE on TROVE, especially as he was a pound-keeper at one time.
Death notice for Mary, 29 April 1881 aged 52 (thus b abt 1829)
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/30815185
And for Leonard, April 1881
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/43167400
The only comment I see about Mary's early life is that she is supposedly Irish. I am not familiar with SA records so perhaps someone else can untangle the Leonards ???

I can't make Trove open for me at the moment but I found this death for a leonard Lewis Lovegrove on ancestry
Leonard Lewis Lovegrove
South Australia
Registration Year: 1916-1925
Page 303
Vol400
The problem with this is the year range of 9 years. Also judb has a death from Trove in 1881. As judb says they need untangling.

The Register (Adelaide, SA) < Wednesday 12 April 1916>
"Mr. Leonard Lewis Lovegrove, whose death occurred at Strathalbyn on Saturday at the age of 96 years, was a native of Ronghey Park, Horsham, Sussex, England. He came to South Australia in the ship Calphurnia, which arrived on Good Friday, 1849. His wife, to whom he was married at St. James's Church, Blakiston, died about 30 years ago. Three sons and three daughters survive."

Looks as if Frances Olive born 1873 didn't marry.
Death of Frances Olive Lovegrove 22 Sep 1950 South Australia
Reistered 1946-1950 South Australia
Vol 759 page 5131
thanks for clearing that up Essie. Now we have Leonards details or what the informant thought they were. :)
Did mary's obit give any details?
So we are missing two daughters.

Here is a son that didn't show before
John Lovegrove born 15 August 1854 Father Leonard mother Mary Creek vol 5 page 32 Adelaide.
The funeral notice for Leonard mentions 3 surviving sons so did John die?

the deceased son

Another researcher has a query about Mary CREED and another "orphan" named Ellen BULLMAN.

As I said - there are two (actually three) Leonard LOVEGROVEs so it's not easy to tell which is which, and not made easier by the Australian Birth Index which doesn't give exact dates for South Australian entries, nor parent names
The Leonard Lewis LOVEGROVE, age 96, in the TROVE announcement of 1916, is, I believe, the husband of Mary (Creed) LOVEGROVE died 1881 at age 52.
As Essie shas already pointed out I think the reference I found in the South Australian Register for a death in 1881 should read Mrs not Mr Leonard LOVEGROVE
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/43167400
Interestingly there is another Death Index entry:
Leonard LOVEGROVE, died 6 Oct 1892, aged 40 (b abt 1852)
Death Place: Adelaide
Residence Place: Point Mcleay
Registration Place: Adelaide, South Australia, page 103, volume 205
Did Leonard marry twice (or even 3 times)?? Probably at least one of one of these is the Leonard who died in 1892.
Marriages S A
15 Apr 1882 at Strathalbyn Page 263, Volume131
Leonard LOVEGROVE
Father's Name: John Lovegrove
Spouse Name: Rebecca Keough
Spouse's Father's Name: Robert Stanley
This lady dies in 1912 at Strathalbyn aged 87, and this marriage to Leornard LOVEGROVE appears to be her second marriage. I note, though that she is not mentioned in the obit.
25 April 1889 at Poonindie (reg Flinders; page 375, volume 159)
Leonard LOVEGROVE
Dinah BUCKSKIN
This couple have a number of children so I would think it is not the right man.
1841 census has a 'Linnard LOVEGROVE' , male servant, born in county, living at Slinford, Sussex which is about 4 miles from Horsham. At the same address 'Lutwick, Slinfold' is a farmer Thomas LOVEGROVE, his wife and children. 'Linnard' and another servant are living 'over the stables'. Unfortunately no relationships shown on 1841 census.
1841 at Roughey Park, Horsham, Sussex
John Lovegrove, 65, farmer
Catharine Lovegrove, 63
Lawrence Lovegrove, 18
This address seems to be the same as the place mentioned in the 1916 obit as Leonard's birthplace. Seems likely this is his parents.

I am descended from Rebecca Keough/Lovegrove, interestingly, Leonard is not mentioned in her obituary!
I'd be interested in hearing from any of the Lovegrove descendants. ;D

Hi...I would just like to add some info about Leonard Lovegrove...my great great Grandfather was Leonard Lovegrove...he married Dinah Ware...they had a son known as Frank...his name might have been Leonard & his middle name Frank...or vice versa.
Frank Sr married Rose Mack...they had 3 sons and 3 daughters...their son named Frank Lovegrove Jr ...is my grandfather...my mother Edna's father.
My great great grandfather Leonard Lovegrove grew up in the area where Leonard Lewis Lovegrove was living...(Lake Alexandrina/Lake Albert area)...I hope this helps :)

My great great grandfather Leonard was the one who lived at Point McLeay & records showed he died aged 40...he married Dinah (Buckskin nee Ware)...Buckskin was the surname of her first husband...their son Frank Sr changed his name from Buckskin to Lovegrove by deed poll when he got married to Rose...he was one of the six children Leonard & Dinah had...one of their granddaughters is still living (Frank Sr's daughter)

Hello, just noticed this post!
yes Mary Creed arrived on the Elgin, birth date 18 march 1828 Ballinstona Uregare co Limerick. I know more about her early life and from what I gather, she has named one of her daughters after her sister and mother. Sister Catherine and her mother was Margaret.
Thank you to all have contributed on this thread... I didn't realise she died in 1881.

Hi Crisane, where do I find the above register please?
Mary's father died in 1853, I'm prettys sure the first letter is telling her of her father's illness.
Thanks
Jenny
Ps... Just realised it was on trove, very doubtful the letters survive anywhere.
