Is there anyone who will be shortly visiting West Yorkshire Archives in Wakefield. I require the Police Service Record For William Winter B1851 in Wellington, Somerset. He Lived in Batley in 1891 and was listed as Policeman, in other records he is listed as County Court Bailiff and Policeman again. Im guessing its between 1881 and 1922 probably with Dewsbury or Batley Borough Police.

Cannot assist re visit to archives, but there was certainly a Dewsbury Borough Police Force, until it was merged in 1968 with the then West Riding Force.  All other Borough Forces within the W.R. also merged at that time, apart from the Leeds and Bradford City Forces.  I am more than sure that there never was a Batley Borough Police Force, so your search should be towards Dewsbury Boro' or the West Riding.  Best of luck.
