Title: Hugh C. O'Doherty - Derry City
Post by: oisinh1 on Saturday 14 January 12 03:47 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to find out more about Hugh Camillus O'Doherty (1856-1924), solicitor and first Nationalist Mayor of Derry.
Specifically trying to find out more about his extended family, as I believe a woman who married a relative of mine's in 1891 may have been related to him.
If anyone has any info on his background, or possible siblings, it would be much appreciated!

Hugh's marriage to Lucy Sinnott is registered in Glenties, Jan – Mar 1884 Vol 2, page 141.

This looks to be Hugh in 1901 & 1911:

Hugh’s will abstract:

Full Abstract :
O'Doherty Hugh C. of Westbrook Buncrana county Donegal solicitor died 11 March 1924 Probate Belfast 22 August to Lucy C. O'Doherty widow. Effects £2786 18s. 7d.

Hi, not sure if you have gotten any further with this but there was a

Hugh Camillus Doherty baptised Feeney RC Church in 1856, he seems to have two siblings baptised at same church, John Doherty 1853 and Mary Doherty 1854

His father was John Doherty and mother was Mary (don't have surname) they were married at same church in 1852

(note, I think the reintroduction of 'o' into some Irish surnames did not occur until the late 19c)

PS I can also confirm from Hugh's marriage record that his father was indeed called John

regards

joe

Hi,
To add a little more to Joe's research, 12 Dec 1852 John Doherty married Mary Kearney in Feeny R.C. Church, District of Limavady.

Hi all, thanks for all your help!
The individual I'm researching is Margery Teressa O'Doherty (later Hassan) born circa 1858.. her father was James O'Doherty, and her uncle was supposedly an RC Curate, Patrick O'Doherty. I believe they were related to Hugh C.. but I can't find out if this is true or not!
Can anyone help trace Margery's parents?

Much appreciated,
Oisín

Was Derry Mayor Hugh C O'Doherty related to Omagh parish priest Philip O'Doherty? Is there a family tree?
