Hi, have you looked at the surname interest at top of page. According to these there are four fellow rootschatters with the same name interest (Massingham).
Just scoll to top of page and click on the tab (Surnames) then click for your interest .
To send a Personal message to these just click on their rootschat name.
Cheers ;D

Heather,
If you do not locate someone with a direct knowledge of this person and the information it is possible the team here could help with your query.
However, you would of course have to give us a lot more information regarding dates and places and what you already know.
This is assuming that BETTY is deceased ;)

To establish the place of birth of the parents of Betty MISSINGHAM, you will need to purchase a transcript of the marriage or a death.
I am unsure what information you have at present so will post this.
This is the probable eath of JANE
REG 34911 In 1964 ALLAN JANE ANN
Father JOHN
mother JANE ANN
At MARRICKVILLE
This the most likely death of JOHN
REG 28788 In 1946 ALLAN JOHN
Father JOHN
Mother CHRISTINA
MANLY
If you search here you will see they are buried together at ROOKWOOD Independent Cemetery

A less expensive alternative to ordering a copy of the original certificate is through a Transcription Agent

Hi thanks very much for info, I have written to aus.gov. and requested the names of the parents, or where they were born before I purchased, but they replied with they didn,t have that info. maybe it is because they were born outside aus. John's parents were John Allan and his mother Margaret Munro and Jane Ann's parentts were John Reid and Jane Ann Mckenzie all came from Elgin in Scotland. thanks again I will try an agent

Hi, Have you also contacted the people on Rootschat that have the Massingham name as one of their interests?
To find if your Allan forebears and when they came to Australia and where they came from. Their shipping records if available will give the answer. I must stress however if they were assisted immigrants then their names may not appear on a shipping record?
What makes you think they came from Elgin Scotland, do you have some document that say's so?

Hi Heather
I do not know which department of the Government of Australia you wrote to, but I am not surprised the response was negative.
The process for discovering the birthplace of your people is outlined in my reply. Seeking others who have your people on their tree is unreliable as a method of research unless the CERTIFICATE can actually be sighted.

It would have been helpful if you had given more information with your initial request. I have linked a previous thread.
If you wish to find more information ie their dates and places of birth and their parents' names, you need to purchase either a marriage or death certificates - transcriptions are available in NSW. Sue has given you details. We can only help you with information in the public area.
Cheers

Buried together as indicated by Sue, with a little more info which supports the death registration posted on my last post.
ALLAN Jane Ann 77 years Buried 11 Nov 1964 Presbyterian Section 5G Grave#001367
ALLAN John 77 years Buried 16 Jul 1965 Presbyterian Section 5G Grave#001367
There is no headstone.
I have searched the passenger records and all I could find was a Jeanie REID 26 years, domestic departing London on the ORVIETO 21 Nov 1913, country of last permanent residence, Scotland. She was ticketed to Sydney.

He was a pilot and also named John Allan or 'Jack'. I have a couple of pics of him too. So you are my Dad's second cousin. Do you still live in Scotland?
