Hi I am on the first rung of my search I wonder if someone would kindly help me out
I would like to find out who my fathers parents were he had a very strong Geordie accent so I assumed he was from the Northumberland area but was born in Manchester I have just found that out
Rumour had it he had a wicked stepmother and was in a workhouse ::)
He married my mother Eleanor Steventon 23 9 1931 at Barnsley Register Office
Thank you
-
Hi
I think you will need to buy a copy of his birth cert to get that information as there is no 1911 index entry matching his profile
-
I wonder if he was illegitimate
There is a 1909 marriage in Chorlton of an Elizabeth Coote to John J Wilson
-
I don't think Elizabeth was his mother. This is the 1909 marriage entry and using the free 1911 index does not show an Edward living with them
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0jo5/
Definitely need that birth cert

Hi they are my fathers birth details as for Arthur I would have no idea where he was born
My father didn't talk about his past what I have picked up is really hearsay and unfortunately my relationship with him was fraught until his latter years
Thanks
-
Hi
Keep this post open and when you get his birth cert - post details of his parents plus mothers maiden name here and we will pick up again
Did Edward die in 1992 in Middlesex? If so - he was born 25th April 1908
The 1931 marriage was in Yorkshire
-
Thanks Carole
Yes he died 27January 1992 not long till his twentieth anniversary and his birth date is correct
When I have an update I will pop back
Thanks

Hi
Just to confirm I received my fathers birth certificate yesterday it shows his father as Arthur Coote and mother as Elizabeth Geddes they were living at 20 Dorset Street West Gorton Manchester.
I'm now wondering who was living with them in the household and what happened between then and my grandfather turning up at 69 Dibley Street Newcastle with just two of their children.
Thanks for your help ;)

-
Well that is surprising I cannot work that out unless Arthur was playing the field cos my father was born in April
I've had another look after the page ref their is a letter (a) for Arthur Reginald Steward would that possibly mean he was adopted
-
May be ,but also are there two families out there, did you get your dads marriage certificate,
1901 census
Arthur Coote aged 22,born Hathersage Derbyshire,
Elizabeth wife aged 21 born Scotland
Chester Street Toxteth Park,
RG13/3426
-
Edward is your dad were is he in 1911 ,if his father is in Newcastle
did he have a sister Eveline ,her father is also Arthur an iron worker 1904 St Gabriel Liverpool
-
Your guess is as good as mine maybe it's a different Arthur in Newcastle we shall see
On my fathers wedding certificate just his fathers name and his occupation as a foreman steel erector doubt that was true cos from what I have seen he was a labourer
I don't know where Elizabeth was born the name sounds Scottish got an idea they married in Toxteth Park March 1901 8b 325 but not at all sure
-
Labourer them days was used as general worker by pen pusher clerks who would put it down as limitation space to explain full occupation title or could not be bothered as near enough explanation. Today people think labourer is of someone with a brush & fetches tea. So would not rule it out as a foreman.
Mind you! these days- brush & fetches tea labourer is a good job title as its a job! ;D and thats something in it own right or rank or status.
-
Hi
Funny enough that's what my better half says she's a PA on an ok salary but her boss gets her to make tea most of the day ;D
-
Tootles have you posted in Newcastle for information ,I am sure he is more likely up there if he had an accent,
-
Will do no wonder my father never spoke about his childhood or his life in general ::)
-
Hi
Funny enough that's what my better half says she's a PA on an ok salary but her boss gets her to make tea most of the day ;D
Then its PL Personal Labourer ;D
-
Eveline born Liverpool dies 1905 Manchester
John born Liverpool 1901 is in an institution 1911,Newcastle
Arthur, Alexander and Winifrid and possibly another child Arthur Reginald are also in Newcastle 1911
there is a death of an Elizabeth Coote born 1879 death.March 1924 Newcastle upon Tyne, she needs checking out, also a Arthur death registered Newcastle March 1962,estimated birth 1881
there is a marriage in Morpeth district,J/A/S 1924 for an Arthur Coote to Elizabeth Hymers,
the other death for an Elizabeth Coot is 1970,Northumberland ,Northumberland central estimated birth 1889
so now only Edward is still missing
-
Hi Radcliff
I'm a bit confused 8)

Thanks again
