Hi Heather
I found Elizabeth Thomas on the "Montmorency" departed Gravesend 8 Dec 1866 arrived Napier 24 March 1867. Also on the ship was Nicholas Thomas wife and 4 children. If this is her parents where did all the other childern go. Any idea. Also the ship was destroyed by fire in the port on the 27 March 1867.

Hi Nik, thanks for your email. This is all new info to me so will look into the ship arrival and fire. It will be interesting to see if this is the same family, my only info comes from the details on my great grandmothers death certificate, giving her parents names, stating she was born in Cornwall, England, and married at age 20 in Lyttleton, South Island NZ, had resided in NZ for 67 years, died age 83years in 1934.
Thank you for searching this query.
Cheers, Heather

Hi Heather
I saw your post online so have joined this site. My 5th Great Grand Parents were William TAYLOR and Ann THOMAS. There children, as far as I can see were:
William 1813
Nanny 1816
Henry 1818
Johanna 1820
John 1821
Jane 1823
Thomas (Tommy) 1826
Richard 1828
Mary 1830
Nicholas 1832
Sally (Salley) 1837
All born in St Just. There could be one or two more based on later census records, all I can say is it must have been cold there and she was a sturdy woman.
My link is with Nanny TAYLOR who married Henry CLARK in St Just (09 March 1840), who also had enough children to populate a small village. Their son Henry Taylor CLARK emigrated to South Australia and married a German immigrant called Caroline Emmalina GRIMM. Now in the 1870's they went and lived in NZ for a while before moving to Orange, NSW then Nymagee and back to Orange. Henry died in Orange in 1914 and Caroline died in Redfern, Sydney in 1915.
So that's the link, we are related so would love to compare notes if you are interested.
Regards
Brad

Hi Brad,
Great to get your message. My link to this family comes through Nicholas and Johanna's daughter, Elizabeth Taylor Thomas, who was my great- grandmother. I am still trying to find out when she came to NZ and who came with her.
Funny, your name is Thompson. Elizabeth married a James Thompson in NZ in 1901 after having umpteen children, the eldest of whom was my grandmother. My grandparents died in the 1940's before I was born, so didn't know much about the family history and still am peicing it all together and phew, it just gets bigger and bigger. So our connection must be cousins several times removed???
Cheers Heather.
