I have hit a bit of a brick wall and would appreciate any help in finding 1851 census record.
I am looking for James Ellis (a stonemason, b 1788 Kirkburton, Yorkshire, lived in Prescot, Lancs). He may have been living with his daughter Ann (b 1820 Huyton) who was married to Anthony Edmondson (b about 1820 Dents/Donts in Yorkshire, a bit of a jack of all trades who worked as a labourer/beer seller/marble polisher). James would have been a widower - I believe his wife died before 1841.
These are the records I have:
1841:
James Ellis living as a lodger in Fell Lane, Prescot with two sons (Richard Ellis, b 1828 Huyton, and John Ellis b 1832 Huyton). No definite record of whereabouts of daughter Ann Ellis (b 1820 Huyton).
1848:
Ann Ellis marries in St Helens:
Anthony Edmondson - above age Labourer Bachelor of Whiston
Ann Ellis - above age Spinster of Prescot
Groom's Father: Thomas Edmondson Bride's Father: James Ellis
Witness: Richard Ellis; Alice Leyland Married by: Edward Carr
1851 census:
Richard and John Ellis still living in Fell Lane Prescot, but without their father.
1852:
Richard Ellis marries at St Bride's Liverpool - Ann and Anthony Edmondson were the witnesses
1861 census:
James Ellis (aged 74) living in Chorlton upon Medlock with his married daughter Ann Edmondson (and husband Anthony Edmondson, a beer seller/marble polisher b about 1819 - I believe Anthony died in 1868 when his age given as 44, so possibly he was born about 1824).
I am guessing that James may have already been living with his daughter in 1851 but can find no trace of them - I am hoping someone with sharper eyes than me might be able to track them down!
Best wishes,
Lesley

Might this be Ann in 1851?
Elm Street, West Derby
Ann Edmonson, wife, married, born 1820 p.o.b Raby Lancs, Occ dressmaker
Harriet Ellis, sister, unmarried born born 1834 p.o.b Huyton lancs, occ dressmaker
Charles Semers, lodger born 1763 Berlin, occ retired tobacconist
HO107/2192/238/23
Harriet's surname transcribed as Elles but looking at the image its definitely Ellis. Ann's surname spelled Edmonson without the extra D. But no Anthony and no James!

Amazing - thank you Barbara, that must be Ann. I may even have looked at this record in the past, but had no idea Raby/Roby was Huyton (thank you too Alan).
I also never knew there was a sister Harriet although i suspected there must be more children - i just found what must be James Ellis's marriage on Lancs online parish clerk site a couple of days ago:
Marriage: 2 May 1814 St John, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
James Ellis - Stonemason of Liverpool
Ann Arnold - Spinster of the same parish
Witness: Edwd. Potter, (X); W. Holden
Married by Banns by: Richd. Loxham Minisr.
Register: Marriages 1813 - 1820, Page 41, Entry 121

More searching now for Harriet and also for Arnold family in Liverpool
Thanks again.
