Hi, now trying to track down my Mooney branch.
My grandmother Margaret Mooney (married Charles Byrne in Dublin) was born 8th June 1896. Father was Thomas Mooney born c1865 and Elizabeth Fox born c 1866. The 1901 census has them living in the parish of Morristownbiller, the family were:-
Thomas age 36
Elizabeth age 35
Thomas age 13
Laurence age 11
Patrick age 9
Bridget age 7
Margaret age 5
Richard age 2mths
Moved to Dublin but by the time of the 1911 census Thomas had moved back to Kildare and Elizabeth is on her own in Dublin living at 4 Bow Lane West. Daughter Margaret is living with her grandparents at 36 Bow Lane West. Thomas is living with a family as a servant occupation agricultural labourer. The family were called O'Grady, living in the parish of Morristownbiller.
If anyone out there can help me with more information much thanks.

I could be related to the same Mooney's from Roseberry in Newbridge.

Tell me more. I don't know a lot about the Mooneys, they were my dads side of the family. Sadly he is no longer with us as he died ten years ago. Margaret Mooney was his mother, she died in 1934. My dad never talked about his family much so I know very little about them. I had always though they came from Dublin, until my aunt (my dads sister in law) told me a couple of years age that they came from Kildare. Sadly she is now dead so all my sources of information have now gone.

I think it's always worth trying the Kildare Observer, if you're lucky you can pick up all sorts of infor there, some sad and some very funny.

There will be a lot of hits for the name Fox I'm sure as there was a lot of people of that name involved in the Clongory Evictions but they may not be of any help to you.

Sorry it has took so long to reply. I do not think it is the same Mooney family as mine, there is no Denis that I can find.
Once again sorry.

Hi, I am doing research on my family and this link came up. I am the Great, Great Granddaughter of the Fox Family on West Bow Lane, Dublin. :)

I think our Great Grandmothers were sisters. Mine was Mary Ellen (Fox) Farrell who emigrated to the US in 1887. I think your Great Grandmother was Elizabeth (Fox) Mooney. Maggie's Mother. I see Maggie listed on the 1911 Irish Census as living with her Grandparents, Bridget and Laurence Fox (sp?) whoe were for my Great, Great Grandparents. I have the address as 35.1 Bow Lane West and you list it as number, #36. Not sure if I am correct.

35.1 (see 1st link) is just the number assigned to that dwelling by the enumerator in that particular census. The actual street address is 35 (see 2nd link).

Hi - Thank you so much! Are you a relative of the Mooney's? I have this document, but appreciate your sharing.

Not related at all- just trying to point out correct address in census record.

I'm a mooney from America trying to find my descendants. I think they may have sailed from europe to america. My name is Jeremy Mooney. My dad is Kenith Mooney. His dad is Drexel Mooney. Does this ring any bells?

Welcome to Rootschat :)
I think you are trying to find ancestors rather than descendants?
You'll need to trace each generation back step by step in order to find when your Mooneys might have arrived in America. Let us know if we can help but remember not to post details about people who might still be living.

Thanks. I have a family tree and I have gone back as far as I can but that's where I hit a wall. The tree is on ancestry.com. I will just have to put in the time and research and look in the census. Any tips?

Start with Family Search (free to use but you need to register an account). I found what I believe to be your family there but remember that most recent available U.S. census is 1950.
