I would love to have a restore and colour, please. I have given it a couple of attempts myself but failed miserably.
The lady on the right is my Great Great Great Grandmother. :)

Hi Devaney :)
Great photo! My best guess is about 1910, but China and Jim will be able to hopefully narrow that down for you.
Cheers
Prue

Hi Prue,
Thank you for that. She was born in 1844 [Ireland] so 1910 could be about right, bearing in mind people did tend to look older back in the day.

Agree with Prue

Thank you, Jim. :)

Oh that's amazing, thank you so very very much!
I really appreciate the time and effort it took, thank you so much. :)

I can't stop looking at it now! Have sent them to my Daddy as well, as I can see such a resemblance now to my gt Gran, his Grandmother.
-
your welcome enjoyed doing them

Around 1910 was my first thought, till I spotted the lady hiding behind the donkey. If she's wearing a suffragette suit, 1910 would be the beginning of a date window lasting till about 1915 or so....so in other words, might be just a little bit later than Prue and Jim's estimate.
Cheers,
China

Thank you very much Irene, very talented indeed.
China, would you say that's definitely a suffragette's suit? Thanks for your time.
-
Well, we can't see much of it, so your guess is probably as good as mine. But the open lapels, the light blouse underneath, and the skirt as dark as the jacket make me think it's a suffragette suit.
-
Thanks again.
I wonder if that's why I haven't been able to find my 3x gt Great Grandmother in the 1911.
-
I think there might be some confusion...it's your 2 x g-grandmother who's (possibly) wearing a suffragette suit - and that doesn't necessarily mean that she was a suffragette! It was a style of suit taken up by many women. See these links:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0jjd/ (newspaper advert for suits)
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,482059.msg3407385.html (old Rootschat thread with a photo of a lady in a suffragette suit).

Hi again,
My 3x Gt Gran is the lady on the right. I think the lady on the left was her Employer and the children her charges.
I hadn't appreciated there was a style called that, will check it out now, thank you for the links.
-
Ah, I misunderstood, and thought it was a family group :) Sorry about that.
Anyway, it's the younger of the two ladies who is wearing the suit, not your ggggran :)
-
I know :) I just had in my head that if the younger lady were a suffragette and consequently boycotted the census, then perhaps all of her household members, including servants were omitted.
But actually the poor lady was probably just wearing a fashionable outfit ;D
