Hello,
Can someone please do a lookup for me for Emma Robertson, b. 1835, Brompton, Middlesex and her parents. Robert Robertson b. 1811 and Mary.
Thank you so much!
-
Hi,
I see there is an Edward ROBERTSON who could be Emma's brother,
Edward ROBERTSON
Baptism: 23 Oct 1836
Father: Robert ROBERTSON, Confectioner
Mother: Mary Ann
Residence: Brompton Row
Parish or Poor Law Union: Brompton Holy Trinity
Borough: Kensington and Chelsea
I found these two in 1841,
HO107/688/16 f.7 p.8 Chelsea
Royal Hospital Chelsea
/
Elizabeth WILTSHIRE 45 School Assistant N
Emma COOPER 15 Daughter of master baker N
Ashly " 9 Son of " Y
Emma ROBERTSON 5 Step Daur Y
Edward ROBERTSON 4 " Son Y
/
A very odd household as the COOPER children seem unrelated to Elizabeth WILTSHIRE. I also can't find any WILTSHIRE/ROBERTSON marriage which would fit.
Regards,
Daisy

Thank you so very much, Daisy!

Hi
I have found a Robert Robertson with Mary both aged 30 and John Robertson aged 4 in Jubilee Street, Stepney, Tower Hamlets, there are also 2 other families in the property.

Hi Erica
I believe the Royal Chelsea was a school rather than a hospital and Emma and Edward were probably boarding there. In which case they would not necessarily be related to others on the same page in the census entry.
Just a thought.

Thank you very much Amanda and Suziq for your hard work!
I'll go over it and try and get some ideas as to where next!
Very much appreciated!

The image from 1841 clearly says "Royal Hospital Chelsea" and going back to page 1 shows the complete title as "Her Majestys Royl Hospl at Chelsea"
The pages 1-8 are full of people who would work at the establishment, surgeons, clerks, housekeepers. gardeners etc and sometimes their families. Pages after that start with invalid captains and their families, surgeons, nurses and military pensioners and patients so I think it is the Royal Hospital Chelsea below,

Their father Robert was a confectioner in 1836, I can't find anyone who matches that in 1841, nor can I find any ROBERTSONs living in Brompton Row, Kensington. I wonder if he and/or Mary died and the children were taken in by someone else.
-
A possible death for Mary,
Mary Ann ROBERTSON Sep Q 1837 Kensington 3 227
I think the Robert ROBERTSON found by Suziq in 1841 is a different person. He is an Engineer which is quite a change from confectioner :-\ One of the other families living with them are SPENCERs, I wonder if this could be their marriage,
Robert David ROBERTSON
Bachelor
Mary Ann SPENCER
9 Nov 1836
Parish: St George in the East
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Witnesses: James SPENCER, John ROBERTSON

Daisypetal!
You are being such a huge help, I can't thank you enough!
-
Hi Daisypetal,
If I understand correctly, Emma was born c. 1835, her parents, Robert and Mary married the end 1836, Edward was born 1836 and then Mary died 1837?
How sad, they had a really hard life.
-
Hi,
Sorry if I've caused confusion :-[
I think the Robert and Mary married in Tower Hamlets in 1836 are the couple found by suziq in 1841, and that they are not 'your' Robert and Mary. Of course I can't be sure about this :-\
The death I gave you for Mary is just a possibility, at that time ages aren't given on the indexes so it's impossible to know more about her unless you bought the certificate.
Do you have any further info about Emma?

Hi Daisy,
The only other info I have is that she married William Walker on 5 April 1857 in St. Luke, Chelsea. They had 8 kids:
William b. 1858
Robert John b. 1859
Emma b. 1861
Edward b. 1863
George Frederick b. 1865
Mary b. 1867
Annie b. 1869
Clement Robertson b. 1877

That is fantastic Daisy, thank you so much!

I wonder where the children, Mary Ann and Robert disappeared to? Died?
They don't appear in the 1841 census with Emma and Edward. The death registration on FreeBMD in 1837 for Mary Ann Robertson could be for her or her Mother. Found a death registration on FreeBMD in 1837 for Robert Robertson in *ington......could be Kensington.....?
