Looking for John Cameron who married Agnes Irvine in St Cuthberts Edinburgh in 1842.
On the marriage certificate he is an engineer residing at 62 Lauriston street. They had one daughter Margaret ann Cameron born 1842 died Stawell Victoria Australia 13/6/1924. Agnes parents are John Irvine and Margaret Steedman Agnes died in StCuthberts 22/4/1846 aged 25 years.
Found Margaret Ann living with George Bogie and his wife Margaret Irvine (Margarets aunt )in the 1861 census . Anyone looking for John Cameron have hit the brick wall Cathleen

Hi Cathleen
Welcome to RootsChat :)
I think this might be young Margaret's 1851 entry, which also doesn't help regarding who her father was unfortunately:
Margaret Irvine 56 b. Cleish, Kinrosshire
John Irvine 34 butcher b. Cleish, Kinrosshire
George Irvine 20 engineer b. Edinburgh
Margaret Irvine 16 b. Edinburgh
Margaret Cameron 8 niece b. Edinburgh
Mary Dods 17 housemaid
Address: 15 St Anthony Place, Edinburgh

Hello Monica thank you for your reply regarding John Cameron I had the info on the 1851 census also when I sent for the whole census I also found a John Cameron Clerk to a Vetinary Surgeon along with his wife Mary John is listed age 54 so I thought I had the right one. Further research finds him still in Edinburgh but the ages differ on every census, finally found him oback in aberdeen/inverness sent for death certificate but I dont think hes the father of Margaret his wife was Mary Wallace from Ellon and Johns age is listed as 84 years in 1886 making him born in 1802 or there abouts his parents were Angus Cameron and Catherine Mclaughlan on the census his birth place is Fort William Invernesshire strange that at 15 StAnthony place we have them there along with the Irvines if he is the grandfather of Margaret I can find no record of a birth for a son John I,m still looking though Cathleen

When did she emigrate?
Did she marry in Scotland?

Hello thanks to everyone for their interest I am not sure when Margaret emigrated but on the birth cert for first child she says she was married to John Thurgood and they were married in Meningie South Aust in1869 those shipping records are hard to track just to make it more interesting I found a marriage for her and John Thurgood in 1886 after all the children were born and she lists her father as a engineer/surveyor I have all John Thurgoods family from another researcher but cant find his arrival either. I,m beginning to think the John Cameron at 15 St Anthony Place has no ties with them
I,ll take a look at the other 1851 census as none of the ages are altogether right Thanks to everyone

Hi All
I did think the 1851 entry that Sancti mentions for a John Cameron, engineer, could have been the closest by occupation. However, he and his wife Janet (Drummond) went on to have a daughter called Margaret in Leith in 1862 which then made me think it was not the right John.
Other than than, couldn't really see anything further at this stage that could help :-\
Margaret's mother Agnes you have as having died in St Cuthberts, Edinburgh on 22/4/1846, aged 25 years. It is all we have at the moment to try and estimate John Cameron's age (very imprecise science this!).
Monica :)
