I'm hoping that someone out there can help shed some light on the birth of GEORGE DAVIDSON b.1813c
His Marriage certificate lists his parents as
JOHN DAVIDSON & JANNET(JANET) SMOLLET(SMOLLETT) (SMOLETT).
I have found records of children for John and Jannet all born in Boyndie, they are ;
ALEXANDER 17.01.1796
WILLIAM 26.09.1797
ELIZABETH 24.04.1800
JAMES 04.04.1802
MARY 20.05.1804
JOHN 14.07.1806
JANNET 09.10.1808
HELEN 02.06.1811
Can't find a record of GEORGE's birth.
I think he appears on the 1841 census living at Don Head aged 55
I've found a record of his marriage to
MARGARET BOOTH on 19.07.1845 in Gamrie
alongside of a wedding between
WILLIAM DAVIDSON & AGNES GARDEN same date (May have been his brother William)
and I have found details of GEORGE and MARGARET's children born in Gamrie and Fyvie, they are :
ANN 1840
GEORGE 1842
JAMES 13.02.1846
HELEN 1848
WILLIAM 1850/52
MARY
ALEXANDER 1856
PETER 1857
JESSIE 1860
FRANCES BRUCE 1862
I believe that GEORGE DAVIDSON died in Gamrie in 1863, but I haven't yet proved this.
If there's anyone that has any info that could help me I would be really grateful. I seem to be going round in circles and up blind alleys.
Thanks everyone

Hi LE
Something not making sense here :-\
Have you looked at the OP register entry for George and Margaret? Highly unusual for this to name his parents as this was all before the start of official registration from 1855.
The children you list for them, if they married in 1845, also don't make sense as you list a number before the marriage date.
There are these children showing for them on IGI, all in Gamrie. Those entries are all from the registers:
1. James 1846
2. Alexander 1855
3. Peter 1857
4. Jessie 1860
5. Francis 1862
The best way to be certain about George's death and parents would be to look at the image of his death cert on Scotlands People. Some online trees give his death on 13 May 1863 in Hill of Troup, Gamrie, parents as you have.

Hi Monica
Thanks for your reply. I have now looked up GEORGE's death cert on SP and 30.05.1863 is the correct date of death and parents are John Davidson and Jannet Smollet
1851 Gamrie census shows
Margaret Davidson (Wife)28
Ann (daughter) 14
George (son) 9
James (son) 5
Helen (daughter) 3
William (son) 9mnths
1871 Gamrie census shows
Margaret Davidson (widow) 50
William (son) 19
Alexander (son) 15
Jessie (daughter) 11
Frances B (son) 9
My Brother traced Mary and Peter, so I will ask him where he got the details from. I'm just going to look up the 1861 census and see what I find.
It is confusing, because as you say it looks as if Ann and George were born before the marriage.
Now you can see why I am going round in circles...............

Hi LE
Just been reading through the other original post on the family, linked by gnu.
A lot of information has already been found and posted on that thread. I think there is a danger of people repeating the same searches. gnu has also looked up images already on Scotlands People to confirm the details we are discussing here.
The main thing outstanding is official record of George's birth and christening. However, you have been very lucky so far to find out so much information. For many people, the type of information you now have on George and confirmation of details is much more difficult to find.
Regarding the children showing as born pre 1845 and George and Margaret's marriage, it may well be that either George or Margaret were married before or Margaret may have had the children (not necessarily with George being the father) outside of a marriage.
I am going to lock this post so that all replies can be added to the main thead as linked by gnu here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,573743.0.html
