Title: Re: Albert Sachs studio, Bradford c1880
Post by: genial on Saturday 07 January 12 04:31 GMT (UK)
I came across this thread while searching for information on Albert Sachs's studio.  I have a photograph of two young girls, details unknown, which was taken at Albert's studio.  The photo measures about 4 x 5-1/2 inches and the slightly larger backing card is white with gilded edge and printing.  The photo is numbered 32403.

The photo is an original and came from the collection of my late aunt in Australia.

We have no idea who these charming girls are (they appear to be aged possibly 12 and 10 or thereabouts) and there is no known family in Bradford, or indeed in the UK at that time who could be likely subjects.

Hello Genial & welcome to the board.
These 2 charming young ladies had this picture taken around 1900.
The puffball sleeve was a feature at the end of the 1890's & the pigeon breast front to their blouses signalled the start of the new century,as you can see they have both so pretty much on the money for 1900.
Photos were sent to friends as well as family so may not be relatives.

Hi
I am researching the Albert Sachs studios and you might be interested in some of the information I have found including a list of Albert Sachs photos which are numbered. This will help date your photo. https://sites.google.com/site/leedsandbradfordstudios/albert-sachs

i have a photogrpah very similar to this one, withe the same detailing on the bottom in golden writting and the same on the back '8 manningham lane, bradford' unfortunately i do not have a scanner so this webcam photo is the best i can do, but the handwritten order number on the back is 49898.  it also has a telephone number, 1035.
The woman in the picture is shown only from chest upwards, and there is no background.  She is wearing a black high necked dress with gathers at the shoulders and lace around the high neck and shoulders.
if you have any information or ideas on when this may have been taken, please help.  :)

there is a name 'alana silverwood' written on the back in pencil. it is very faint and im not sure if the writting is old or not, as i only aquired this photogrpah yesterday at an old market store

Hello Florence & welcome.
This is someone else's thread but as the poster seems to have lost interest we'll take no notice.
A busy studio would take 5000+ photos a year so just on that would put it 1905-10.Her hairstyle looks a later Edwardian creation which fits with the date. Her dress style was pretty much standard throughout the Edwardian period.
