I have posted several times on here about my great grand uncle Richard Waller which has turned up several results. But these were more specific searches relating to him (burial etc)
The major part of my research has now turned to the location of his paintings and I am now turning to the posters and chatters on here to seek help.
Richard Waller was born in Skipton, Yorkshire in 1811 and died in Holbeck in Yorkshire in 1882; he was mainly a portrait painter but other works are known to exist and I have made a list of about 60-70 possible paintings; some are just very vague titles; giving the name of the sitter; others are more descriptive and some that I have tracked down I have been able to acquire a image of.
I have pretty much exhausted the internet as a source for information on him as I have gathered information from old newspapers in the British Library as well as being in touch with the National Portrait Gallery, galleries in Leeds, some smaller galleries and information from auction sites.
In his early career he trained for a time in Manchester where he went on to open a studio; he later spent time in London and Yorkshire where he opened studios and was even due to exhibit in the Royal Academy.
There are two important works that I would like to track down; one is "Queen Victoria in her Coronation Robes" which was displayed in Skipton shortly after her coronation (although obviously she never sat for him) the second is a painting of General Giuseppe Garibaldi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Garibaldi which was bought shortly after the painting was exhibited in an exhibition in Leeds.
It may be that over the years that paintings have been lost, destroyed, in private hands, gone overseas the main source of my information is his obituary from 1882.
I hope anyone can help me with what has turned into a bit of a treasure hunt :)

Good Afternoon. I was doing some internet research on Richard Waller and noticed your post and interest in tracking down and recording paintings by him.
We have a family picture by him (believed to be of my great great grandmother) and are interested in finding out more about the painter. I can share a copy of the picture if you are interested (I was unable to attach a picture to this e-mail) if you would let me have an email address.
Kind regards

Hello Robert,
That is a kind offer and I'm sure Piltdown_man will be pleased. However RootsChat policy does not allow email addresses to be put into messages on the public threads. This is to discourage spammers, phishers and other unsavouries.
Such information should only be exchanged by the internal Private Messaging system and therein lies another hurdle. Piltdown-man cannot send you a private message (which only you and he can access) until you have made at least 3 posts here at RootChat. So do go ahead and make 2 more. They don't have to be long ones - anything will do - e.g. say "Thanks" to me for the heads-up in one and tell us where your GG-Grandmother lived in the second. That will do it.
Cheers,
Westoe

I was very surprised to receive a notification out of the blue after such a long time since I posted about Richard. I am still piecing his life together and at some point I am hoping to write his life story (even with the gaps in his life)
I am very interested in the painting that you have, Are you able to tell me anything about it and I would be very interested in a picture of it to join the small collection of images that I have been able to get.
If you want to know more about Richard I can let you know about his life; although he did pack rather a lot into it.
