Hi Charlotte,
My GGG Gran died 1841, before census so i'm not too sure how can go about finding out if she worked in the mills !! Open to suggestions.

Phthisis (usually pulmonalis) or TB was a very common cause of death in those days.
Infectious disease.

Wasn't it known as " the white death"?

Interesting... just looked on web.... www.
.. "The victims of tuberculosis (usually known as consumption) included not only Keats, The Bront's, Chopin and Chekhov, but members of almost every family. It was a killer on a huge scale."
From The White Death written by Thomas Dormandy..
Also interesting, when my mother was dying over 10 years ago it was thought she had TB, because of some of the symptoms she was having... all immediate family was tested... no one was positive.
Thanks all

I've lots of ancestors who died of this, including my maternal grandfather and maternal g.aunt, aged 24 and engaged to be married. I have photos of her and she looked so beautiful.

The majority of my relatives died of Tb if D.O.D was prior to 1920sih and they died before they were middle aged.
Obviously just a very consumptive family :(
