I eventually will order a Certificate for my Gr Gr Grandmother Mary Ann Murphy, this year, but would like to know if i'm following the right family first, before i order my certificate, and later find that the certificate information, i ordered is incorrect.
The family i'm trying to trace is of the following.
James Murphy (B) June 03, 1830 in Clounmellane, Kerry, Ireland
+Catherine ? (M) Abt 1852
Children
Mary Ann Murphy (B) October 23, 1855 in Salford, Manchester, England
I really would like to know Catherine's maiden name, I also am unsure about Mary's Father's information, i mean i don't know how right it is.
Please help, i'm so puzzled.. ??? :-\

Usually one works back through the available records in a logical way- such as getting Mary's birth certificate and then, with mother's maiden name, searching for a marriage record.
Was Mary their only child? and if not, where and when was first known child born?
You haven't mentioned where Catherine was born but if in Ireland the marriage could have presumably taken place in England or Ireland. See www.freebmd.org,uk (covers England). Civil registration of Catholic marriages in Ireland started in 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages which includes those in Registry Office) - see www.familysearch.org for civil registration index. If the marriage took place in a Catholic ceremony in Ireland then you'd need to see if you can find a church record of the event.
Civil registration of births also started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for James- again you need to search for surviving church records (early baptismal records may not contain much detail- possibly only child's name, date of baptism and possibly parents' first names).
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html) and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html).

I don't know where Catherine was born, and can't reveal that until i find out what her maiden name was.
-
Is Catherine not in any census records such as 1861, etc.?

I've just found an earlier thread of yours about Mary Murphy and I'm even more confused-
Mary Ann Murphy (B) October 23, 1855 in Salford, Manchester, England and parents James & Catherine-
Mary Ann Murphy (B) 23 October 1853 in Manchester, England, ...
I'm trying to find out what Mary Ann's mother's name was, her father's name was William Murphy
I don't have any details on Mary's parent's, Just that they were from England,
Mary's mother's maiden name was Cashuene, only i'm not quite sure if it is, and would like some help with tracing this line, Please..
Where have you found Mary's father was called James and what's the source for his date and place of birth?
-
Please don't be confused. and no worries.
My Grandmother, gave me the details on her father, which i found to be the son of Mary Ann Murphy.
I know that during an earlier post i had the incorrect date, but from visiting my local family history center, and many online posting's etc, the error on Mary's Birth date has been corrected.
-
That's okay- at least you eventually got the correct date for Mary but if you now have the date you'll probably need to get her birth certificate so you can find her mother's name, then look for parents' marriage etc.
As I asked earlier- Is Catherine not in any census records such as 1861, etc.?
If you could at least find whether she was born in England or Ireland then it might make it easier to find the marriage.

Free BMD and Lancashire BMD have these Salford births:
January - March 1854 Mary Ann Murphy
January - March 1855 Mary Murphy
1861 census has:
Mary Murphy 7yrs daughter of James and Dorothy still in Salford
Mary A Murphy 7 yrs daughter of Catherine (widow) living in Manchester but close to Salford
There are others born Manchester and one born Manchester but living Salford - daughter of Thomas and Ann.
-
Would think this one is most likely possibility-
Mary A Murphy 7 yrs daughter of Catherine (widow) living in Manchester but close to Salford
From information in Twiglet's online tree-
James Murphy, son of William, died 1856
and to answer the question I asked earlier- Catherine born c1830 Ireland.
