If I find anything will add to this posting...
This is an early entry to Canada, so existing passenger lists, & transcribed online are few and far between... also date could be aprox. 1828 as you haven't the ship's list to prove year of immigration as yet. ( unless you have other documented proof)  I see from this website they ended up in Toronto.  http://www.dalzielbarn.com/pages/TheBarn/FamilyHistory.html

Yes, they did end up in Toronto  or king Vaughan Township, as it was called back then.  I have no official date of arrival, this is the only info I can gather as to when they did arrive.

Its been hair pulling trying to get as much info as I could  :D

Because their old barn exists in Black creek Pioneer village, which is very cool, by the way, this may have come from Toronto researchers who have found the passenger list,(although it should then have been available online) They may also have taken it from children's census entries...
You could contact the Toronto archives http://www.toronto.ca/archives/
the Toronto library http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/using-the-library/computer-services/
Perhaps you could ask if there is a bio on the family which might have more information.

Hope this site will get you to the book
A History of Vaughn Township

page 195
Dalziel Family

I found this through doing a search for Vaughn Township and various sites for Vaughn Township Historical Society came up.

Doesn't give the passenger list but other info that you may find interesting as well as the fact that a member of the Dalziel family sold the barn and 14 acres that eventually became part of Black Creek Village.

Have you checked the 1852 census at automated genealogy.
401 Vaughn Township, p.1a,171
Some members of the family are listed including Ann age 75 living with William (56) James (35) Agnes (44)

401 Vaughn township, p.20d, 21a, 211
Walter Dalziel, farmer, age 49, b. Scotland, religion - United Presbyterian
Janet, age 42, b. Scotland
Mary, age 19, b. Canada
John 18
Ann 16
Agnes 15
Robert 12

I love those entries in ourroots, valerie, some stories are invaluable...
I have looked for some bad weather days in 1828 and it appears it was a rotton, cold and windy year which included a hurricane in May...so no narrowing it down by the weather...
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/Arrivals/1828a.htm
I would have said there was no way he could have taken the land in 1828 for a first crop in 1829, but I am used to the western pioneers, starting from scratch...and since he bought the land already owned and worked, if he was a knowledgeable farmer, and had the family helping, it's possible. The months could be narrowed down-up to the latest seeding time in Ontario in order to reap....of which I'm not familiar, as the climate is considerably warmer there...

Hi,

A bit more about the barn etc...

And here is the link to the Black Creek Pioneer Village site.  -- so you can see what the Dalziel Museum has morphed into..

Since the family came from Scotland, have you looked for them in Donald Whyte's books - A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation (4 volumes)?  There might be something in there about your family and their arrival.  If your library doesn't have the set, the Toronto Public Library does:

You can use the Ask a Librarian feature to request a look up.  J.J. had suggested contacting them to see if they have a family file or other information on this family.  That is a great idea..

Hi again,

You might try the Vaughan Public Library too.  Maybe they have some information about this family.

In case you don't have this, you can see the family farm in the Historical County Atlases.  They are in York County, Vaughan Township...  John and James Dalziel.

Appears that some members of the family are buried in Dalziel Pioneer, Vaughan, King Twp York (Toronto)

The headstones aren't shown but transcriptions are given so it gives the death dates for John and Ann and other members of the family.

go to Browse Headstones by Cemetery, then to York (Toronto), scroll down to Dalziel Pioneer, click on each name to bring up dates of death, etc.
