Title: marriages in 1814
Post by: CLLM on Sunday 01 January 12 22:18 GMT (UK)
I am looking at a marriage record for my ancestor in 1814.  There is no parental consent given.  So, my question is this:  How old did she need to be to be married without parental consent in 1814.  I have found 2 potential families for her name and can eliminate one if there is an age requirement, as one would have been only 14 at the time.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

She had to be 21 or over to be married without parental consent, but of course some didn`t always tell the truth.   If she was under 21 but had been previously married and widowed then she didn`t need parental consent.
