Title: Alice THOMPSON married George THOMAS
Post by: newbe_nz on Saturday 31 December 11 22:27 GMT (UK)
Hi There,

I have Alice THOMPSON who married George THOMAS in Mangonui 1862.
They are my second great grand aunt and uncle. I have been told they had six sons and 6 daughters.

Alice died 1916 and is buried in Peria Public Cemetery, Northland, NZ
George I have just found died 1923 and is buried in Otahuhu Cemetery, Auckland

Theses are the following I have found from BDM on line
George THOMAS 1862 died 1934 buried next to his mother Alice at Peria Cemetery
Charles Francis THOMAS  1870 died 1925 married Martha Maria FOSTER 1892
Charles is buried in Okaihau Cemetery, Northland
Martha next married Henry DANGEN in 1925 and Martha is buried at St Catherine's Anglican Churchyard.
Harry THOMAS 1871 married Annie FOSTER. Harry/Henry died 1948. Annie died 1967
Alice THOMAS 1872 - no further info
Harriet THOMAS 1875 - 1960 married Jabez FOSTER 1892. Jabez was born in 1872 - 1957
John William THOMAS  1877 - 1959 Buried Manukau Memorial Gardens
Ellen THOMAS 1879 -1952 married Francis Alphonso WATKINS 1901. He was born 1879- 1952
Sydney THOMAS 1881 1960 Buried with George his father. Name on buried record is spelt Sidney THOMAS as I found out today.
Jessie THOMAS 1883 no further info
Minnie Elizabeth Maud THOMAS 1886 -1970 married Joseph Alexander Henry William John HENDERSON 1915. He died 1969. Both cremated at Purewa Cemetery
Albert Percy THOMAS 1888  no further info.

So it looks like there is one daughter to be found but have no idea when she may have been born.

Any help with this family would be great. I have yet to check for children of some of them. I have children for Ellen THOMAS and Francis Alphonso WATKINS which I will write up next.

Looks like it is not mine as have received a copy of info from the C.Little funeral record from Auckland Library. Says she was born Dublin, Ireland.  Says she was in NZ for 51 yrs. Back to the drawing board.  Will keep the info incase someone else finds they need it.

The one in Otahuhu Cemetery, George THOMAS 1839-1923
The next George THOMAS I have is  1863 - 1934

Is the 3rd George THOMAS deceased? Where does he fit in. If alive are his parents deceased? who were they?

Just trying to work it all out.

I would love a copy of the photo if that is ok with you.

Hi Newbe_nz
There were three George Thomas' here in NZ. George the 1st came here in 1855, I think that it was, and married Alice. Their son George, the 2nd named his son George, hence the third. George the 3rd is dead.
I have a lot more on the family in my other computer with the photos of the six sons and six daughters and George 1st grave.
George came here with his brother John who they think went to Nelson.
Some of the information that I have is a bit sensitive so I won't put into the public domain.

Hello,
Have come across this;
A VERY pleasing ceremony was performed at Mr. G. Tory's Hotel, yesterday afternoon, when Miss Alice Thomas, second daughter of Mr. Thomas, of Manganui New Zealand, and Mr. Alfred W. Bullen second son of Mr. G. Bullen, of Kiama were united in holy wedlock by the Rev. J. Dinning. The bride was attended by Miss Bullen, sister of the bridegroom, and Mr O. Major acted as best man.The bride was attired in a becoming cornflour cashmere dress, trimmed with shot silk, while the bridesmaid looked beautiful in a dress of blue cashmere. After partaking of a hearty wedding breakfast the happy couple left for Sydney in the 7 p.m. train on their honeymoon tour. The Kiama Independent, and Shoalhaven Advertiser (NSW : 1863 - 1947) Friday 22 July 1892 p 2

Hope this helps.

Hi There,

I have just seen this message. I think Charles is my 2nd great grand father. So somewhere we may be related. I will see if I can find out where Martha Maria  is buried.

Do you have a date as to when she died?

Looking forward to your reply

Hello,

I am a Canadian descendant of George and John's brother younger brother Joseph who emigrated to Canada in 1874.

I understand from my brother that he met I think a daughter of George III of New Zealand - if I have it correct they would be third cousins.

Joseph's son told his daughter - my mother a few details about these NZ uncles and I would love to fill out the information I have - I am very interested in how families of those times kept in touch - or lost touch with siblings and adult children.

Hi June,
I am a great-great grandson of George Thomas (1839-1923) and I have been researching the family for a book I am writing about the family.
I would like to correspond further with you regarding Georges brother Joesph and I have just found out more information about their brother John who fled Mangonui in the 1860's to Nelson and then Canada after killing a local Maori chief.
Earlier this year I also organised the first ever NZ Thomas family reunion and if you are interested (I know Canada is a long way away but we had cuzzies from London,Abu Dabi etc) I would like to invite you & any family members to or next family reunion, Labour weekend (October 2022).
My email address is (*)

I look forward to your reply!.

Regards
Loren Thomas
