Hi A Chesters
I've just found all your posts, and am very interested in your enquiries about Arthur Macarthur and about the Turnbulls. I'm also directly descended from Arthur, and still have his surname. If I'm not mistaken, your 94-year-old mother in law is called Nell or rather Nellie Gertrude and I have a photo of her holding my eldest daughter in 1983 when she was a baby. I also have two lengthy letters from Nell's late husband sent to me in the 1960s and giving his recollections of the family history.
You should find my address details in Nell's address book, which would enable us to follow up this discussion (and share a lot more detailed research) more privately. Let me know if that's a problem.
Many thanks

Hi Haywards, welcome to Rootschat. You will find it very usefull, and the people here are very helpful. That I can guarantee from experience.
When you have made three posts, you will be able to use the PM system for private messages.
Yes, my mother in law is Nellie Gertrude, and my wife is her second daughter.
I would be very happy to share what I have found, and will see if I can find the address book.

Hi, and thanks for replying so quickly.
Your original Macarthur query concerned Arthur Macarthur who, as another RootsChat contributor helpfully mentioned last year, married Mary Cameron in Balfron on 14th September 1807. I have found that Mary was a Balfron girl, baptised there on 7th October 1792 as the daughter of Duncan Cameron and Helen Hutton. But I still haven't located Arthur's birth - or his death although this was between 1837 (when he was listed as a Balfron tailor in a trade dirctory) and 1841 when Mary appears in the census as widowed head of the family. I assume he was born somewhere else, as part of a massive increase in Balfron's population when a large cotton mill was built there in the 1790s. I have found four Arthurs born in the 1780s in Callender and Port of Menteith, but have been unable to make a firm link with one of these despite looking at likely sibling patterns. Have you done better, or have any of our other readers?
Best wishes

Hi
I've just seen these restores - aren't you lucky A. Chesters. I think you might have missed the last 4 restores by David, Pels, Irene and David - they are really good ones.

Thanks for reminding me gnu. I have seen them, and think, as I said at the start of the tread, that the restorers are brilliant.
I will admit to being remis in not acknowledging them earlier :-[ :-[ butI will agree with you that they are really good.
I apologise to David, Pels, Irene and David for not acknowledging them earlier, and have no excuse whatsoever, so please accept these apologise a bit late in time.

Hi A Chesters
Thanks for your further message about Nell's address book. Was my message about Macarthur research helpful to you, or were you already aware of all of that?
