Hello can anyone help!!!
I have been tracing my family tree now for a while but have had really big trouble with my mothers family where do you start.
1. First problem encountered was my mother she is the middle child all being girls the two others are registered as mothers maiden name being Jones my mother is registered as being Games, if she was first or last you could say adopted etc.. but I haven't got a clue all three are still alive and they also have no idea.
2. Secondly my maternal grandmother I have looked and bought birth certificates for who we thought but to no avail I can find marriage and death records, but can't find birth records:
Her name was Nancy may Jones B. 18-Jan-1919? M. JAS 1947 in Pontypridd District D. June 1985 at home in Ferndale, Rhondda. She married a Reginald Victor Smith B. 24-Nov-1919 St Pancras, London. D. 1971 at home Ferndale, Rhondda of motor neurone disease.
3. This is the hard part Nancy's parents
Father known as a John Jones form West Wales area believed Nancy was result of second marriage.
Mother only known as Hannah no surename known she died in 1974 in Pontypridd and lived in Ferndale, Rhondda.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Her married name was Jones I have her death at June 1974 age 75, no I don't have death certificate, I have no idea of her maiden name.

So we can confirm that her death registration was
Hannah Mary Jones
2nd qtr (Apr-May June) 1974 district Pontypridd vol 27 page 1217
Its important to confirm as much info as poss - If the above is the correct women she had a middle name Mary which you did not mention! Her date of birth given on her death certificate was 14 feb 1899

so the birth you have questioned next to nacy May Jones 18th Jan 1919 is not correct? that birth has mothers surname - LONG and district Bridgend?

This is brilliant news I was aware that Hannah had a middle name but only the initial (M) nobody new this.
I bought the certificate with mothers maiden name Meredith but when purchased birth was in December and father was also wrong, this is the problem with buying from the GRO, and not the local registry office.
Can I ask where I maybe going wrong as I am a member of Ancestry.com but couldn't find this info.

What we need to know what info do you actually have? also what info do you think you know?
having given you several bits of info do you believe the info given to be correct and has silvery asked what certificate have you sent for and have.
To be sure of who you have in you tree certificate ensure that you are hopefully not heading down the wrong road.
Always here to help but we must have all info so we can help.

Yes as far as I'm aware we are on the right track for Hannah Mary Davies !! Question can you find where she was born. I cant seem to find her birth registration.
As for John Jones any suggestions on finding his Birth or Death!!!
The only certificates I have bought are for Nancy may Jones but was the wrong one and for my mother Susan Smith but that had a mothers maiden name of Games?????

It seems to me to be able to find John Jones you must order the marriage certificate, the certificate would at least give you John Jones age and occupation also there may be witnesses on the certificate that might be from his side of the family. It will also give you both their fathers names and occupation so at least you may be able to track them on the 1911 census.
What you must understand is you are dealing with the surname Jones
as given

Once you have this certificate get back to us so we can hear what it gives so we can then go from there. I understand you are keen and frustrated and you want the info now , but sorry to say looking into your family tree can take years.
So start with the marriage and I am sure we will discover the info you want.

If the year is correct the birth would have been registered in the first or second quarter of the year 1899

Bearing in mind that the information on a death cert may not be always quite accurate. And collecting your family history can sometimes be a fairly slow process of checks and eliminations.

Here is the marriage certificate unfortunately doesn't give much to go on and the lack of imagination in the names doesn't help either.
17 August 1918 @ Penuel Calvanistic Methodist Chapel, Duffryn Street, Ferndale, Rhondda.
John Jones 36yrs Widower - Collier - 28 Church Street, Ferndale - John Jones (deceased)
Hannah Davies 24yrs Spinster - no occu - 20 Beech Street, Ferndale - William Davies (deceased)
Witnesses: Charles Davies & Thos E Horgan
Minister: Benjamine watkins
I've searched the 1911 census for the addresses listed there was a John Jones living in 28 church street then but whether its the same one I don't know.
From what I can gather John Jones was from the Llanddewibrefi area of Cardiganshire.
As for William Davies I have no idea.

You may have to start with your grandmother's birth certificate. Just to be sure of the maiden name of her mother.
You may be on the right track, but you need to confirm.
If the age was correct on the marriage certificate for Hannah Davies, she would have been born about 1896. But her husband was a few years older than her (may well have been a second marriage) and she may have altered her age upwards. Not unknown. Usually it get altered down :)
If you have Hannah Jones nee Davies death certificate, who registered the death? May give a clue.

You are quite correct John Jones was a second Marriage to Hannah hence the age gap, Trying to get information from my family about this is not straight forward.
Apparently John Jones had a son called Zacharia by his first marriage I have tried looking for a Zacharia being born in west wales circa 1880-1890 but can't find anything does this help.
Also tried looking for the witness with the unusual name but not as unusual as you think.

If John Jones was 36 in 1918 when he married he was born about 1882. So he would have been unlikely to have a son born 1880 - 1890.
Maybe 1900 to 1918 would be better years to search for a Zachariah Jones. Didn't he live with John Jones and Hannah?
Or do you mean John Jones b 1882 had a brother Zachariah?

No Zachariah didn't live with John and Hannah but from what I can gather John's first wife died so the question is who looked after Zachariah I expect that grandparents would have done this.
You are right the years I searched were wrong I have looked for the years mentioned but no Zachariah born in wales.
