My husband is trying to trace a Henry Skinner born c1872 Bethnal Green. He marries a Sarah Margaret Turner. He names his father as Daniel Skinner a butcher on his marriage certificate. Sarah died 1915 and Henry Skinner remarries.
Can anyone find us his birth or baptism please. Thanks

I've found a Henry Skinner born Q3 1871 in Bethnal Green that's a possibility, no middle name given:
Skinner, Henry Bethnal Green 1c 279 Q3 1871
Having checked 12 quarters in all from Q1 1871 to Q4 1873 by looking at the original registers on The Genealogist, he's the only Henry Skinner born in Bethnal Green so if you're sure he was born around that time then it's a pretty good bet I'd say.
I also found a Henry Skinner in the 1881 census aged 10, born London Middlesex living in Clerkenwell (close to Bethnal Green) with his mother Fanny (a widow), elder brother William aged 13 and younger siblings. I looked for a marriage for Daniel Skinner between 1850 and 1899 to catch all possibilities and there is one in Bethnal Green in Q3 1874 with possible brides named Amelia, Louisa or Elizabeth. There is one who married a Fanny but as its in Q4 1851 it's too early to be the Fanny in the census above.
I think your best bet would be to purchase the birth certificate mentioned earlier.

Thanks-as you suggest the birth cert is a great idea. I have looked at the possibility of Fanny in Clerkenwell -i guess its a possibility.

Problem with the birth reg for Henry Skinner 3 qtr 1871 Bethnal Green is it could be the reg of a different Henry Skinner
1881 census shows a 9 year old Henry Skinner b. BethnalGreen with parents Charles and Mary???
RG11 205 8414
do you have the names of any siblings??

Hi Suz. Unfortunately all we can go on is his name and the fact that he gave a Daniel Skinner- a butcher on his marriage cert. I believe he was living in Shoreditch area when he was married to Sarah. They have 2 sons a Henry born 1901 Holborn and one son Albert born 1905 Plaistow.
Trying to find a Henry with father Daniel seems a needle in a haystack.
If Daniel is the true name -is there a butchers Guild?
-
This is strange
I looked at Baptisms for Henry Skinner, no joy, then decided to search for Skinner with father Daniel, I only found the following
Emily Skinner
baptised 15/10/1871 at St Matthias Bethnal Green
mother Fanny, father Daniel
address 105 (165) Brick Lane
fathers occupation Butcher
So there is a Daniel who is a butcher but at the moment there is no proof he is the father of Henry
possibly findings
1891
Henry Skinner
aged 19
pte in Royal Marines Walmer Kent

William 22yrs born Bloomsbury
Henry is 20 born Shoreditch
Frances 18 born Shoreditch

Louisa-Thanks for all the help.
I have been looking at all the info and going back on everything so far. I only have one tiny doubt-I feel the Daniel/Fanny fits but when Henry marries he is registered on marriage cert as Henry EDWARD Skinner.
I have drawn all the tree out so far but just one remaining question as to his name?
-
I am beginning to feel that Daniel never married Fanny/Frances
1881 is interesting
RG11/358 FOLIO 27 PAGE 31
Daniel aged 40 Butcher born Clapham
Elizabeth aged 50 born Middx
PLUS 3 siblings by the surname of Parsons, remember the marraige 1875, Skinner to Parsons
So I am totally confused unless there are 2 Daniels coincidentally born same place about the same time who became butchers.

Yep that is an interesting theory unless Fanny/Frances Died or let if they were not married. I will keep all the info in a file and see what happens.
thanks again

1891 41 Jubile St Mile End
Daniel aged 54 slightly out Butcher
Elizabeth 63 plus 2 Parson siblings
1901 Elizabeth at same address but shown as "wid" I believe Daniel died 1892.
1901 Frances living at 9 Little James St
Frances aged 57
William aged 33
Josephine aged 22
I belive Frances died shortly after 1901
If Daniel married Elizabeth Parsons 1875, who fathered the 2 children born 1876 John and Josephine born 1879?
LM
-
Hi. That opens a very interesting theory-was he married and still seeing Frances or are they 2 seperate people...oh crumby it is not an easy link is it-I can only find one Daniel born c1837 Clapham but no recorded baptism.
There is a Daniel in Shoreditch-seperate time and he has two wives also.
;D

and so the plot deepens, it certainly needs looking into

Emily who I found the baptism for
I found 2 births for Emily Skinner
1 Sept qtr 1871 Islington
the other Dec qtr 1871 Bethnal Green
Dec qtr 1872 an Emily Skinner died aged 1, was she Emily belonging to Daniel, Emily didn't show up on census with parents Daniel and Fanny/Frances, I don't know if there is a connection.

hI AGAIN EVERYONE. I have considered all the info and think the Henry Skinner who was in The Royal Marines in Kent is a possibility now. It appears he was on The Royal Marine Medal Roll as Deal/11861-does anyone know how I can find the record.Cheers
